Description
The radar speed sign near the South School is broken. It works intermittently but mostly does not work.
When the sign is working, it flashes "school zone" when cars are going slow. However, when car speed, the word "School zone" stops flashing in it just says slow down. I think it would be more appropriate to have a flashing "school zone" sign visible to those who are speeding.
I think drivers are more inclined to slow down in a school zone, and better school zone signage would help.
Cars still race back and forth on this stretch of road. The occasional police presence is appreciated, and helps, but is only effective when they are present. A solution needs to be found to help curb the excessive speeding on this stretch of road.
The small school sign at each end of the road is not very visible to cars entering this area. I think some more school zone signage in both directions and maybe some enforced speed zone signage may help vehicles realize this is a residential school zone.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Radar speed sign not working Tuesday morning.
The minimally sized school zone signs at each end of the street on utility poles are not noticed by drivers. The intersection of Main Street is so busy with the gas station and the convenience store, nobody is looking up on the utility pole to notice that small sign.
This radar sign is the only real traffic enforcement for this Elementary School Zone. Cars continuously race down this street at speeds far exceeding the 20 mile an hour school zone limit. Many well over 35 MPH.
This must have been an expensive item purchased by the taxpayers. It would be nice to have the town get our money's worth out of it.

Any update on getting this item repaired?
Traffic is still crazy on this stretch of road. We need all the traffic enforcement we can get in this heavily traveled, excessive speeding school zone.
Thanks.

This sign is still not working. Maybe one or two hours on a bright sunny afternoon it runs. All other times it does not work.
Cars are still speeding down this street most of the day. The police have showed up on a few occasions and issued a few tickets. But when the police are present the cars are not speeding.
They cannot be expected to patrol this poorly marked section of street. Much better signage needs to be in place.
The minimal school sign on the Main Street end is high up on a pole. It is very close to the corner where there are two entrances to a gas station on one side, and two entrances to a convenience store on the other side. Nobody rounding is corner is looking high up on the pole to see that small sign that says "School"
The town has responded in the past that they felt this sign was "adequate". Considering the continued problem with speeding here, something more is needed.
The safety of the residents and schoolchildren in this area should be taken seriously by the town. So far, it appears it has not.

What does the town's response that this is a duplicate issue mean?
The problems associated with this area are exactly the same same
as when they were posted multiple times over the last year.

Absolutely shameful with zero accountability or transparency on issues that just get passed along year to year...

A three way stop sign with solve the speeding issue, but would caused far too much congestion.
The town needs to install much better signage in this school zone. The only sign coming in from Main St. is at this intersection, where there is a pizza shop and convenience store on on one corner, and a gas station on the other corner.
Nobody is looking high up on the pole to see this small school sign at this busy intersection.
There is a same small sign at the other end of the street.
The radar speed sign at the corner of Pine Street malfunctions most of the day.
Any additional cars we can slow down with proper signage, would effect other traffic also.

I wanted to drive this route and take a look. Wednesday, mid morning. In just the few minutes that I stopped at the corner of Pine Street, I saw many cars well above the "20 mile-an-hour elementary school zone" limit.
I noticed that cars going the speed limit will have the sign read "thank you". Cars speeding, will have the sign read "slow down". It doesn't appear obvious to slow down to what.
Heading home Wednesday afternoon, the radar speed sign was not working. Heading into work mid-morning Thursday, the sign was not working.
Please keep reporting on this.
