If RRC will send me a petition for a speed bump, and instructions , I will take it to all the houses on the block. It has been on my mind for some time because, yes, we have accidents from people speeding, and because of people parking up to the corners. (The corners are unpainted) They need painting. The speeders are local and because they make that turn off Central all the time, they think they are ok. They want to get on Summit and to Manhattan to get out of here.

We absolutely need speed bumps and traffic light enforcement on Summit Ave. Every day when I drop my son off at daycare/go to work, I see at least one driver run the red light at Summit and Hutton. Same when I come back home. I've learned to wait the extra 10 seconds after the red before crossing, but others may not be so cautious, having the right of way.

Please be advised of the following, when we receive a request for an additional traffic control device at an intersection we initiate a traffic engineering survey. This survey consists of a crash analysis, collision diagram, condition diagram and a 25 hour motor vehicle count and when warranted a “speed” or “classification” count. We also take into consideration other factors at the intersection, such as, any sight distance problems for vehicles entering the intersection. Once all the traffic engineering data is collected it is analyzed. If the data collected falls within the parameters mandated by the federal guidelines of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) for the installation of an additional traffic control device, a “stop sign” or “traffic signal”, we then proceed with the necessary steps. To designate an intersection as a “multi-way stop” an Ordinance is proposed for Municipal Council approval. If it is determined that a traffic signal installation is warranted, the steps are more complex. We need to identify a funding source, award a contract for design and then award a contract for the construction. This process takes a couple of years.
Whether the traffic data collected does or does not indicate that an additional traffic control device is warranted, we will still make improvements at the intersection and at the approaches to the intersection. We make sure all the signs are clear and visible and clear the corners with “no parking any time” signs for better visibility. We will issue work orders to install if necessary, speed limit signs at the approaches to the intersection. If there are designated crosswalks, if needed, we will also install “pedestrian approach” and “pedestrian crossing" with diagonal arrow signs.
I will advise you of the outcome of your request once all the traffic engineering data is collected and analyzed.

Traffic engineering survey is ongoing per prior comment from Traffic Department. Issue will be closed at the conclusion of that study.

The speed bumps on the street, initiated by a neighbor, have helped a lot to make it more quiet and slow people down. YEH!!!! Thank you. Now Summit Ave has no visibility because people park right up to the corner and you cannot see.

Please let Andrew and Patricia know that the barriers to parking on the corner of Summit Ave and Sherman Place in the Heights are greatly appreciated.
