How do you arrive at the conclusion that the town doesn't have enough parking spots?

I have lived in Kearny for almost 30 years. When 5 out of 7 days a week you cannot find parking on your own block there is a problem. When coming home at night and you cannot find any parking for at least 4 blocks there is a problem. That is how I come to the conclusion that there is not sufficient parking.

I think what I meant to ask is how or what is the town supposed to do about that? You can't stop limit number of cars per household. Parking is definitely an issue, but I don't see what the town could do about that. My only idea would be to investigate illegal apartments. I've also seen numerous posts on here about people with driveways that they don't use and instead take up street parking. But again, there's nothing the town could do to enforce this. Maybe 10 years ago they shouldn't have given permits for so many multi family dwellings. I live near Hoyt and i do not relish the idea of when they finally construct 42 units and an additional 9x2 family homes on Tappan (i believe?). Now THAT'S annoying; the parking lot is only large enough for 25 or so cars but they allow for 42 units. There should be a ratio of dwellings to street parking to maintain, but again, i dont think that's within the legal scope of the towns authority.

Then how about building a parking structure. Or permit parking? I mean it's pretty ridiculous when you cannot find parking for at least 4 blocks.

asking for a parking structure is like being asked to get rid of your car so parking doesn't bother you anymore...

Why not where the KHS faculty parking is? That way during the school day teachers can park there instead of taking up all the spots on the street and on weekends and summer residents can park?

Clearly this issue is still not fixed nor does the town decide to do anything but give more parking tickets. Every box was parked in last night by 9:30 because again there is no parking and then everyone got a ticket again because there is nothing better to do in Kearny but to drive around passing out parking tickets.

Wow, Christie, plenty of young women walk home from parking around the corner and it isn't a safety issue. You just feel very entitled and inconvenienced and now expect not to get ticketed for parking illegally. What about the safety issue of a young father trying to turn a corner your illegally parked on obscuring his view? You deserve the ticket, it is your fault when you get one, it is illegal to park in the yellow. maybe you should just sell your car, Public transportation runs down Elm Street.

First off where I was parked is not a safety issue as the street is wide enough. Plenty of other cities allow you to legally park in this area. Maybe when the father has a young daughter in his late teens or early 20's he would understand. Maybe I should just sell my car and take a bus and move my job because there is no parking? Maybe the town should find a solution to the parking problem, as most posts on the board are about that.

Maybe the town should force people to park in their driveway. How about restricting the number of vehicles, say two, per household. Until the town comes up with a workable plan to alleviate parking problems you are going to have to deal with the present parking situation.

It's not about being lazy. I work out every single day and I am a soccer player, I am far from lazy. But as a young woman with all the things going on in today's world I do not feel safe walking 5 blocks to my home in the middle of the night.

You have to move or change your circumstances. It is illegal to park in the yellow, your argument is not valid. You do have to walk 5 blocks to not get ticketed for parking illegally close to your house. You truly feel Kearny is unsafe at night, you need to move. Lot's of people make it home safe every night. You are way too entitled. You are no doubt doing something illegal, it is your fault you get a ticket, clearly you have not learned your lesson, I hope you are towed the next time.

It is illegal in Kearny not in NJ. I am not entitled and Kearny is not the place it was when I was a child. So yes I do fear for my safety walking 5 blocks to my home in the middle of the night. And I am moving for that reason but u can't just pick up and move in a day it doesn't work that way. First u call me lazy then you call me entitled but the truth is you know nothing about me, therefore you are ignorant. I have not just stated a problem but many solutions the problem is that the town chooses to keep acting as though parking is not a problem when clearly it is.

Your solution is breaking the law, parking illegally and causing safety issues for local traffic. I am pretty sure parking in yellow is illegal most anywhere too. You are lazy, and entitled and funny you say it, but you are ignorant. You can not park in the box, maybe it can change one day which I doubt, but unless it happens you are breaking the law because you do not want to walk, that is lazy, and you want a parking structure built for you in a town you plan on moving from because you will not walk 5 blocks, that is entitled. I do not need to know you as it would probably reveal even worse traits you would try to justify because you work late and do not walk 5 blocks....

Wow you sound more and more stupid with every reply that you make, all I can do is laugh at you. I offered other solutions such as a building structure or permit parking, these are not illegal last time I checked. Many other neighboring cities allow their residents to park on the corner they don't have the boxes. Yes I am stating that the town should make some sort of a parking structure because there is no parking in certain areas of the town and that is a proven fact. Just yesterday the cops were on my block because someone parked touching other people's cars when he was asked why he simply told the cop, " because there is no where to park." This is not just me this is the community. So keep on with your ignorant self so I can continue to laugh at you :-) as you offer no solution just name call like a small child.

You can not park illegally, stop using this forum because you park illegally and do not like getting ticketed. Go to a town meeting and get reprimanded in person.

I do not like parking illegally. There is a parking situation in this town and it should be addressed instead of pretending like nothing is wrong.

To back track I never said it was because I work late at night, but to clarify I do on weekends. You think you are talking to some spoiled uneducated brat so let me clear it up for you. I am not stupid I actually have a Master's Degree from a highly accredited school. I work full time for a Fortune 500 company and bartend on weekends. I also play soccer for a semi pro team. I am far from lazy and far from stupid. I grew up in Kearny and once upon a time it was a great town but now it's going down the drain. So yes I am moving. I can tell that you all work for the town and are trying to push issues like this aside as though they are not issues. Therefore, I would love to attend your town meeting and I will inform my neighbors as well. While people like you act like nothing is wrong, they will be the ones who continue to suffer.
