I live at 48 spring st and would like to request a new crosswalk from my house to the sidewalks across the street. Where my house is located, on a busy double yellow line road, there are no side walks to the left or the right of my house, and there is not even a flat area to the left or right where I could walk my dog or push a stroller without being on the main road, which isn't very wide. There are side walks across the street from my house, but traffic, coming especially from the left when facing the sidewalks across the street from my house, do not see me standing in my driveway due to a small hill. No one ever slows down or stops for me to cross, and it makes me nervous that I have to sprint out of my driveway to safely walk around my neighborhood. If there was a crosswalk, at least cars would be required to stop. I realize my house is the only one this would help, but I have a dog and baby on the way and I fear that something bad may happen as there's no way to safely exit my home on foot.

At the very least, there should be a crosswalk from Eustis to Vinton. Spring Street has sidewalks on the north side from Main street to Eustis, then they abruptly end and don't appear on the north side again until Fatima. There's no easy way to get to the sidewalks on the south side of Spring without backtracking several blocks to Stevens Street.

Better yet, the sidewalks on the north side of Spring Street could be extended from Eustis to Fatima, so people wouldn't have to cross the street to walk in safety. But I know budgets are tight, so that's unlikely to happen.

Sidewalks along most of the north side of Spring St would help fix this issue, but is likely unrealistic.

I think the larger issue is just how much speed some people pick up while driving down Spring St. If there is some more realistic way to slow down traffic, especially at that little hill by 48 Spring St, that could help address the issue so that people can cross safely.

A crosswalk at this location is not planned at this time. Use of the grass plot / sidewalk on the north side of Spring Street is recommended. Crossing to the south side can safely be made at Spring & Stevens Street.

That is really an unacceptable resolution to my problem. How would you recommend I navigate a baby carriage on that "grass plot" which is on about a 2ft hill and uneven at best, and about 3ft wide? Then drops down at Eustis st, then up another grassy hill? Cars fly up the hill to the side of my house closest to Spring Lane and the hill doesn't level out until you reach our house. If you cannot add a crosswalk, which honestly is a bucket of paint, then something needs to urgently done about the speeding coming up that hill and on our road in general.... Or another type of solution that I'd imagine the safety officers are well versed in coming up with. Imagine if myself and my child get hit by a car... That would be real problem that could've been easily solved. Please reopen with a more acceptable response. No one reached out to me or my husband regarding this matter, either.

Normally I would be on your side until I did a google search to see what the area looked like. I found out you bought the house in August 2014. The safety problem must not have concerned you. Spring street is a heavily traveled road (35mph speed limit?) As a taxpayer I don't think it would be fair to spend money (thousands of dollars) putting in a sidewalk / legal crosswalk because you have buyer's remorse.

Chris... I'm sorry but who are you? Buyers remorse? More like I didn't have a baby on the way a year ago and things like navigating a carriage didn't occur to me at the time of purchase. I'm sure you can relate to not thinking of how life my change in the future when making decisions. I don't appreciate you closing my issue when it's something I need to take up with the town. Also, the speed limit is 30mph on our street and frequently it's obvious people are traveling 40mph or more. This has nothing to do with "wasting tax payers money" or "buyers remorse". More like the safety of my family. Living on a Main Street is not a problem, until I can't safely cross it because of speeding and no crosswalks/sidewalks.

I agree with Chris. As a taxpayer I'm glad that the town DPW has spending priorities. But if people are breaking the law by speeding, why don't you submit a new seeclickfix issue and ask the police to monitor that road?

Well thanks everyone for continuing to close my issue... An issue that is completely unrelated to you! If you re read my posts, you will see I asked the DPW, who have safety officers and apparently assigned one to our case... One who never contacted me... To come up with a solution as they are clearly paid to do. Talk about a waste of resources! But let me open another issue so that you guys can stop closing mine and I can just deal with the town, like I am trying to do!! The speeding is an issue but I'm sure if I asked for there to be a digital radar detector on our street as I'm sure the police have many other things to do... Everyone will complain that's too much of their tax payer dollars!! Can't really win here. Just looking for help and a safe solution.

Spring Street is in desperate need of newly painted cross walks. It's hazardous! I was crossing near Spring/Stevens/Summer and cars were in no way slowing down for me to cross and I was walking with my son in the carriage. Motorists do not stop (or even slow down) for pedestrians and drive much faster than 30-40. I was in process of writing long post last month about the need for painted crosswalks but my computer crashed :(

Thank you for the SeeClickFix submission. The police department does not recommend the installation of a crosswalk at this location on Spring Street due the lack of a clear line of sight resulting from changes in topography. Additionally, adjustments to curbing would be required to make the crosswalk ADA compliant.
