Wow, if this is all true, it is unbelievable the driver was simply let go. The authorities and the media should investigate.

What? This is totally outrageous! Did anyone get NHPD badge or license plate #'s, not to mention the truck's plate #? This person is obviously a serious danger. Will he kill someone next time? The police need to deal w/ this. If the guy's on off-duty cop or son of somebody, this needs to be made a bigger story.

this is outrageous. in my own experience, i do feel that the police are hesitant to file police reports regarding illegal activity. i don't know if this is laziness or an active attempt to keep the city's crime stats slightly lower than they actually are. either way it's unacceptable and a disgrace.

Confused needs to contact the Assistant Chief Redding's office and make sure he is aware of this complaint so an investigation can be pursued. You are in possession of evidence in a crime. Writing on this site and remaining anonymous will do no good. If they think no one is watching then things like this will occur. Make a formal complaint.

Who cares, the court system would have let him go anyways. These cops actually saved the state some money. Why don't you people mind your own business anyway.

Yes, drunk driving is legal apparently. Most drunk drivers who crash go to the ER, and once they get to the ER, the police are nowhere to be found. Yale or Jail. At most, the police might show up in the ER and give them a ticket for failure to maintain proper lane or something innocuous and then the police take off. Only in cases where someone is killed do the police do anything at all, and even then it is unusual. IF the ER draws an alcohol level, and IF an innocent victim is killed AND the police or prosecutor subpeonas the medical records, then consequences may fall on the perpetrator. For the most part, though, the cops do not want to be bothered doing the paperwork, and going to court etc, because they know most people will hire a lawyer that will get them "off" on a technicality.

Rumor is the driver is the owner of a local bar. That would make a lot if sense.

Off duty police and friends of police get that kind of treatment sometimes, not always.
