I could be wrong, but I think sidewalk shoveling is the duty of the landowner and not the city. Unfortunately with many landlords operating remotely (and especially with the building at Winchester and Tilton being vacant) if neighbors want the sidewalk shoveled, I think we have to do it ourselves :-/
That's true. When it comes to shoveling snow, it's every man and woman for him- and her-self. The only sidewalk that gets shoveled automatically is the sidewalk on the eastern side of Mansfield Street by either a company hired by Yale or by Yale personnel themselves. Every other sidewalk on every other street in New Haven is shoveled by the people who live there or the owners (lots of luck) who own the property.
