There was a no trucks sign for Park Street that had been there for the past 20 years. A Park Street resident brought up to the Board of Selectmen at town meeting that trucks and buses have been driving down the street illegally. In response to the complaint, the Town Administrator instructed the police and DPW to remove the sign to allow trucks and buses to pass freely (specifically Albanese). The resident has photos of the sign pre-complaint and the removal post complaint. The police and the Board have been informed of this blatant disrespect of the Park Street residents & Stoneham residents at the benefit of construction workers (again). Please send a note directly to the Board and to the Police station, specifically Officer Ponzo, regarding this issue. Hopefully they will listen if multiple residents complain.

A review of Traffic Regulation Permits provided by the MA Department of Public Works to the Town of Stoneham revealed that Park Street is not a roadway with a commercial vehicle exclusion. Without an approved commercial vehicle exclusion, the police department cannot take enforcement action.

A call has been placed with the Department of Conservation and Recreation to determine if a permit is on file with their agency excluding commercial vehicles on Park Street, from Marble Street to Fallon Road.

Stoneham authorities are not understanding the issue. We are talking about park street between marble and maple which is NOT a DCR road. The Park from marble to Fallon road. has a “no trucks” sign and it is a DOT road. I know because I’ve called both rep mike day and senator Jason Lewis aBout the traffics issue and was told it’s a DOT rd. If it’s a DCR please let me know and I’ll start contacting them.
By the way when I filed a complaint they took the sign down on park between marble and maple and hung it on the road between marble and Fallon rd which makes no sense. I appreciate this issue being resolved but will need the neighbors to begin a campaign to be heard. Please contact the elected officials At all levels to address this issue. I am happy to speak with any neighbor personally as well. Please see the photo below. The no truck sign had been there since we lived here in 1992. Thank you for the post. The section of Park Street between Marble Street and Park Street is controlled by the Town of Stoneham. Unfortunately, the signs excluding commercial vehicle access on the Town controlled section of Park Street had been improperly installed as this roadway does not have an approved state permit restricting commercial vehicle access. Without a state approved permit, the police department would not be able to take enforcement action for violations.

Based upon recent informal conversations with the MA Department of Transportation, it is unlikely that if the Town was to make an application for a commercial vehicle exclusion, it would likely not be approved.
