This is happening all over the city, including areas that were once lovely (all of NH was once lovely), such as Beaver Hill. With weak leadership (aldermen who are in it just for the ego boost and "glory," whatever they get out of it), citizens are forced to police this issue ourselves. I am personally monitoring the activities of a dealer in my area, logging locations, dates, times and license plates. See Click Fix is only marginally helpful in this regard, as moderators have been removing pertinent information, which impedes progress. I suggest that all residents keep logs of the deals they witness, with detailed information, and send them weekly to NHPD.

NHPD does nothing for these issues, they won't even show up for a shooting, only to pick up the body afterwards.

The police have already started working on this issue thanks to the immediate community members who know how to get in touch with me..Sorry to say that calling your alderman, chief of Police or Mayor only prolongs getting the message out to the Police Officers who work in the immediate area...I can be reached at 203-946-7163 my office is at the East Shore Police Substation on Woodward Avenue...I would love to get as much information as I can from the community because without the community it makes it harder and longer to solve these issues...this needs to be a partnership in which the Police need you. And JD thats nonsense..pick up the phone and call the substation number..Complaining and giving out false accusations on the computer doesnt solve anything...I look forward to hearing from you.

Sgt Vinnie in our district, 9th, is very responsive to this type of issue. They keep an eye on this area. If the warmer weather is increasing the drug traffic then we need to monitor the cars (make & model), license plates and individuals. I pledge to do my part in this as well and start the monitoring again as I did last fall. If we all make this a priority, we will make it better.

I can only hope that this issue gets resolved. Actions do speak louder than words after all.

I have lived on Rosewood Ave for nine years and I have never seen a police car drive through this street on a regular patrol. Just the presence of a police car parked for 15 minutes now and then would make a huge difference.

In order for the drug dealers to go away, a patrol car would have to make the rounds all day, every day. That's never going to happen. Here in Beaver Hill, I do see NHPD occasionally driving around, but one dealer, I have discovered, moved into the neighborhood, and deals right on his own street, from his truck (as well as every other street). Both the dealers and addicts are driving around the area, setting up the deals on their cell phones. So they can get the deal in while the cop is just one street over.

I would love to see police on East Pearl St. I'm a parent and the actions of some are really making me want to move.

Keep calling the police district manager and don't give up. If you can get the license number without endangering yourself it would be helpful..

Just a drive up and down a street like Clinton, First Ave, Rosewood now and then during the week will help. The visibility makes thugs take notice, especially at night. I'm afraid to get my mail after dark and it's still Winter.

I agree about a police presence - even occasionally to see a car parked around our neighborhood - the intersection at Ziggy's would be a great spot for police to hang out. I'm not asking for it all the time - just some of the time.

Like I said before, just a simple drive by a police car up and down side streets makes huge difference.

The scum bag thugs from the west side Whalley ave and Dixwell ave area are slowly migrating east into the fair haven area. After being pushed out by a large police presence. The city announced today that 40 new cops are on the street. Where will they be placed? My guess is around Yale.

wow, instead of writing such inflammatory comments on a computer, spend three minutes, write down a description of the person dealing and call it in to the police. No, they cannot be everywhere at once, that is impossible even if they had twice as many cops as they do now, but with descriptions and pertinent information more can be done. By the way, the new cops are being placed all over the city, NOT just yale.

A description? Black male, about 6' tall, 200lbs wearing a dark colored hoodie, dark pants and sneakers. That narrows it down.

I wouldn't deny guest's assertion that we added new cops to appease Yale (partially). If you think about it, any kid and their parents considering Yale have got to be MORTIFIED by New Haven, even if they only do some preliminary research here at SCF. Once they visit, it seems ok as long as they stay within Yale's downtown limits, but Yalies walking with their laptops and other electronics are being mugged for them all the time, whether it makes the paper or not. Maybe that's why the APPLE location is always so busy! But I don't think we should doubt that Esserman is concerned for all of New Haven. He knows the issues, but we as citizens also need to make the jobs of the NHPD easier, by SHARING INFO. No more of this "no snitch" bs. The police also need better laws in place in order to be effective (for example, the no chase policy regarding the dirtbikers must be changed, and we need to confiscate the bikes and destroy them - no more getting them back). Also, no more bowing to politically correct racial issues, either - that is A DINOSAUR which thwarts justice on a daily basis.

If possible try and get license plate numbers. When doing this or getting any other information for your safety try not to be noticed. For the people living in Fair Haven Heights area and East Shore report this to Sgt. Vincent Anastasio {203} 946-7163. He appears to really care.
It also might be wise in the future when posting comments to watch what you write because the bad guys may be reading these posts.
We also should try to be more patient with the police because we don't know when they may be gathering evidence for a raid. Case in point the raid on Sherland Ave. about a week ago.

BJG is correct about the bowing to politically correct and racial issues that somehow have become standard operating procedures in this city and country. If a black man jumps and robs a white man it is a normal, everyday mugging. If a white guy jumps and robs a black guy it is a hate crime. Why is that? Can someone please explain this to me and keep a straight face while doing so.

Sargeant Anastasio is a great help and appreciate what him and the other officers do. I started this post so we could make some changes, not to bash the police department or talk politics. I take pictures, take down license plates, and no I do not hide from these people. This is where my business is, so I will not be bullied by these junkies and will continue to show that i am watching and taking note. I also understand this isn't the only spot where drugs and crime occur so for all that feel victimize I hope changes are made.

I have seen this on First Avenue in the past, and on Hemingway near Rosewood/First near the rain trestle a few months ago at night. I wish I had lic plate #'s and better info. He was wearing a hoodie.
I agree that more police presence driving through our neighborhood could help, as would us calling everything in. I frequently see them at Foxon and Q Ave., but on our side streets would be helpful.

You can't expect people to run outside, take a picture or write down a plate number then go back inside their home so the bad guys now know where they live.

Now that Spring is in the air, the bird chirpers have returned in full flock. It's nesting season, time to plant their roots. Still no sign of a police car on Rosewood.

Please, my neighbors keep reporting, call our substation, try to discretely get plate #'s and/or photos. Downtown on Chapel St., merchants are taking photos of dealers right out in the open to report them!
