  I live at 1002 59th right at Stanford and have been watching the encampments closely for the past two months. It used to be lovely to walk down the green path of the median and see my neighbors walking their dogs. Now the tents are right in the path. Is this a legal use of public property in Oakland?

  No they are in Violation of City of Oakland Municipal Codes. 9.08.160 Sitting or Lying on streets or Sidewalks, 9.08.170 Obstructing pedestrians, 9.08.180 Alcoholic beverages on public streets, 9.08.190 Open alcoholic beverage containers. The are violating numerous ADA laws. Litter and illegal dumping, Defecating and urinating in public and I am sure many others.

  This encampment is also creating a hazard for traffic and pedestrians as the tents span the wide grassy median and are obstructing the view of vehicles speeding west along Stanford, making crossing the already challenging intersection at Los Angeles even more dangerous.

  Scrolling through the tickets here there are at least a dozen for encampments on the Stanford median. All are "acknowledged" by the City but has there been any other response to any of these complaints, which include cooking fires, urinating/defecating, large signage, etc.?
