Dear City of Oakland... I am certain that the cost of OFD response was 100X the cost to simply tow the abandoned vehicle in the first place. VERY wasteful policy to ignore easy enforcement items :-(

I agree with Michael's underlying point. Ironically, in this particular case, the car was likely set on fire by the person(s) who left it, because it was not there for more than 3 hours. I was outside around 9pm and it was not yet present; I called it in at 11:36, a minute after my neighbor next door.
Michael's statement is very relevant, basically extrapolated from the "broken windows" theory of enforcement, but I do want to give credit to Oakland for having been much more responsive about these types of issues on this street during the past 12 months.
We used to have large piles of illegally dumped material sitting where they were dropped for weeks on end; so as soon as they were finally picked up, it was a matter of just 1-2 days before dumping continued anew. Nowadays, thanks in part to Destiny Arts Center's efforts, cleanup is generally done within less than a week. Progress!

Didn't realize this was a 'new' abandoned vehicle, so my criticism was misplaced on this one. We had a blue Jag on our block for about two months with endless reporting to DPW... a blue pickup truck that took over 2 months to resolve, and a green fiero that is years overdue for towing... so much so it has plants growing out of it. So the abandoned auto enforcement is definitely not keeping pace with the dumping cleanup.

Funny, given that the abandoned autos hold some residual value to the City either through fines or at auction, I really don't understand why they're not more aggressive on chasing those down.

Long ago 'fixed' but not by the city.
