I have caught 7 rats over three nights coming from the back of my fence. I spoke with another neighbor and he has also filed a complaint months ago, the city has yet to do anything. The law is vague, Sec. 14-3. - Restrictions on barnyard animals.
(a)
It shall be unlawful to maintain, in the city, any poultry or animal yard within 500 feet of nearest lot line for any building used for residential purposes by anyone other than the one maintaining such poultry or animal yard, or within 500 feet from any public way, church or school building.

"public way" is also defined as sidewalk or street?

This is your favorite neighbor with the chickens. First off you have been here how long? A year or two and now all of a sudden your getting rats? Hmm funny I have had my chickens for over 4 years and have never had one rat. Could it be because we live behind stores? Could it be because your not clean? Could it be because you have nothing better to do then to complaining about EVERYTHING? Just because your unhappy doesn't make it right for you to try to bring other people down. And your "neighbors" who complained a month ago and nothing was done are unhappy with you. Nothing has been done because you can have chickens. I've done my reasearch prior to getting them unlike you doing your prior to composing. Our current major had chickens.
Now should I make a complaint on the fact that you didn't put your fence up correctly? Nah I'm not going to because that's childish and I wouldn't ever stoop to a leave your located on. If your not happy in Clawson then LEAVE!! Or come to me as an adult and we can talk about it.

Love that you have chickens. Good for you and good for your family.... do you ever sell eggs to neighbors who like chickens.

Thank you for your response Tori. I do sell them. All the neighbors love them. ( well clearly minus one neighbor :) )The neighborhood kids come and work in the coop as well collecting eggs, holding and petting the chickens. It's fun and great learnign experience.

Thanks for your response. I have had the chickens a little over 4 years. Now a week ago he has rats. I believe if chickens caused the rats then we should have had them for the last four years right?

Chickens are not the cause for the rats, they make very little mess. Sounds like chicken lady is very passionate and cares for her chickens, highly unlikely that they are sitting in filth. It’s lack of cats. If everyone went and rescued one cat from the shelter, fixed with updated shots and released them at night, we would never see rats. if everyone had proper garbage cans with locking lids, there would be no rats. If everyone made sure their own property had no debris (wood, branches, broke down decks) there would be no rats. If you have a dog, but don’t pick up the poop every day, you will have rats. Don’t point the finger if any of these apply to you. My mother had 3 chickens for over 5 years, not one rat, neighbors didn’t even know she had them, very quiet. If you are seeing rats on your property, it is highly likely that they have taken residence in it because your yard has something to offer them, not what’s in your neighbors yard. I have one hell of a hunter cat, no rats and/or burrows in my yard.
