You should call Animal Control. It is the same telephone number as the New Haven Animal Shelter. Explain the urgency, they will come and pick up the animal. I speak from experience, as I had about five raccoons become extremely ill and it was heartbreaking to watch. Long story short, it turned out to be distemper. Raccoons and skunks get this disease and it's horrible. So it's not always rabies that makes them act this way. And contrary to myth seeing a raccoon or a skunk during the day doesn't mean it is rabid. I hope this helps. I also had a raccoon get sick on a holiday weekend.
