And on top of this looking so bad, they did this on North Street which is one of the busier streets in town. So now after the Forest Street intesection on North street all the way to the Williams Street end of North Street there is now the "double black line", how is this safer i don't know.

The double yellow made the roads looks like highways. The painted-over lines just look tacky.

Deep breath, everyone. Winter is upon us. A couple of snow falls from now, with sand and salt thrown down, and those lines will be long faded away. The yellow lines were incorrectly applied on some streets and now they have finally been blacked out.

At night the light from the headlights shows the yellow right through the black.

You are 100% correct. The paint will fade away but it's going to be the black paint and then the double yellow lines will be back. The decision to cover the yellow lines with black paint was a tremendous waste of time and money.

The three members of the
BOS (Three Headed Monster) continue to make unwise decisions with our tax dollars. The lines should have been left as is and over time would've faded on their own without costing the tax payer a penny.

To think that double yellow lines signifies a "highway" is moronic. The streets that were painted with the double yellow lines are all "thickly settled districts" which means the speed limit is 30mph.

Painted lines, whatever their color, may not have been important to you or me, because we didn't have lines painted on our streets, but it was important to many who did have lines painted on their streets. So the BOS did what was in the best interests of those who were affected and complained about the lines. Simple solution, and it appeased those home owners who were affected by the lines. I wasn't one of them.

I think we should all step back and look at what a horrendous imposition this black line down the middle of Jimmy's Street must be.

I listen to the news about children in homeless shelters, people going to food pantries because they don't have enough to eat, and all over the world people fleeing terrorism with nothing but the clothes on their back.

It is hard to imagine how Jimmy will manage to have a Merry Christmas when as he says "I am hosting Christmas at my home this year and I have family and friends coming from several different states and I am embarrassed by the appearance of my street".

This is a huge issue and symptom of how horribly the Three Sorrowful Mysteries are ruining our town. The double yellows were done by our DPW director to comply with the law. A couple people buzzed into Moe Larry an Curleys ear so he was made to paint over them, wasting about 15k.
Thank god I heard one of thems not running in April, or at least there will be level headed opposition. This majority is absolutely horrible.

To be honest, the original post by Jimmy has nothing to do with the black line down the middle of the street. If you read his post you will see that it basically just as a chance to slam the board of Selectmen that he doesn't like.

He over dramatizes the importance of a black line down the middle of a street as a pretense to make a political statement. I think I would be a little embarrassed to admit that my hosting of guests at my house was threatened buy a black line in the street.

And then there's PC 2.0. I've been waiting for him to chime in with some irrelevant comment to the original post. Again, he's just someone who likes to wine and fuss about not liking the board of Selectmen. Doesn't usually have much else to say.

this in unbeleivable, the problem here is that the head of the DPW painted lines based on the Massachusetts highway code, and because some people didn't like it the BOS demanded without regard to the Massachusetts highway code that the lines be removed. A double yellow line does not have anything to do with speed, it divides the road so you stay on your side of the road, you do not cross the line unless you are taking a left. So now we are left with double yellow lines with some black paint over them, the black paint will soon wear off and we will have double yellow lines again until the yellow paint wears away (probably sometime next year). There may have been some streets that did not warrant lines, they should have been addressed by not repainting them next year. In my opinion, North Street should not have been painted over. It was painted over from the Woburn line all the way to Forest Street.

Driving Forest street, it looks like most of the black paint has worn off, the yellow lines are very visible. Hopefully we didn't pay too much for this, I had heard $20k to grind the lines off, so I'm assuming the black paint was cheaper.
