There are four different time of day timing plans that operate on the Blue Ridge corridor. Signal timing coordination for the Blue Ridge corridor is set up from Trinity up to Ebenezer Church. Sometimes drivers may not experience the same smooth progression if they enter the corridor somewhere in the middle as they would if they started at one end of the corridor. Also, occasionally it may be difficult to set up good progression in both directions so the signal timing engineer may settle for only one direction. The signal timing staff has taken a closer look at the weekend timing plan. It had been set up to have good progression northbound, but drivers traveling southbound would more than likely experience a stop from Macon Pond to Lake Boone Trail. As a result, the timings for the weekend plan (which also operates on weekdays 6:30pm-10:00pm) have been adjusted to greatly improve the chances of getting good progression southbound as well as northbound. Two factors to keep in mind that often affect smooth progression on a corridor are over saturation (too much traffic for the available lane capacity) and early releases (where the main thru movement at the upstream intersection may start earlier than planned because of light demand on the side streets causing vehicles to arrive at a red light at the downstream intersection).
