I think that changing from a one-way to a two-way street in any case requires a fair amount of getting used to on the part of everyone--car drivers for sure, but especially pedestrians and bikers, both of whom stand to be injured the most in an accident. Bike riders need to be responsible for riding at a reasonable speed in a narrow space, and people on foot need to suspect that there might be a bike coming.
