Description
While the crossing guard at the intersection of Canner & Whitney is amazingly attentive to pedestrians, the one at the intersection of Canner & St Ronan is positively useless. She is often either staring at her cell phone, or has her back to the intersection while reading a newspaper. Pedestrians at that intersection are reliant on their own discretion in crossing, and the drivers paying attention to who is crossing where.

I wouldn't want my kid crossing there with her on the job!

My children and I were walking down Canner, and my son was almost hit by a car coming out of St. Ronan. The crossing guard was stationed at the southwest corner of the intersection, and had failed to stop traffic to allow us to cross. She was sitting, reading her cell phone.
I want to echo the poster on the fact that Bill over on Canner and Whitney is the best crossing guard there is. When he retires I think the Hooker School community should host a party for him.

Just drove my kids to school past this guard this morning at 8:25am. Kids and parents on every corner waiting to cross, and cars stopped at every direction of the intersection, and this guard is sitting at the southwest corner, stop sign in hand, watching the whole thing without doing a thing. She's not even distracted by her phone or the newspaper.
I've been told by other crossing guards that they are personally aware that she is a problem, but the only way to get anything done about her is through community calling directly to the Board of Ed. transportation division at (203) 946-8075. I just called and left a complaint, and I suggest others do the same.
