now that the weather is getting nicer, the food trucks at Long Wharf are getting lots of custumers. That is really great for them but the problem is all the garbage their clients leave behind. I go to work driving on long wharf every day and see it every day. Needless to say it is pretty nasty all the garbage I see along the street, mainly on the water side. I just saw counteless plates, food containers and even garbage backs left behind all along the green areas. Honestly it should be the food truck owners responsibility to pick the garbage their clients leave behind. The city have a number of garbage cans (blue bins), still there is lots of garbage everywhere. Again, the city did what they are supposed to do. I think is time now for the food truck owners to do their part and if they dont perhaps they should pay a fine. FYI, a lot of the garbage end at the sound.

Those food vendors actually help the New Haven economy more than you might think.. it is jobs and cash flow for a Capitalistic economy. They pay taxes, as well as a fee for vending license. Now think for a minute.. when you buy something 'to go', is the place where you bought it responsible for what you do with it? No. Same with these. The food is sold 'to go' and the buyers can go wherever they want. If they go across the street and enjoy the view of the Sound from their cars,, then they should be treated as tourists. Take an example.. the Downtown Green.. there are about 3 or 4 vendors along Church St. Are they responsible for where the business people, City visitors, and locals bring their hot dogs? No. The City makes money off of them , too, and is supposed to keep this area clean,, also, as a tourist site.
I don't know if you are driving by from another town to some other town and all you see of the New Haven area is along the highway,, but.. sadly,, the whole Downtown area has been neglected for a few years now, and we all have the same reaction as you. But it's too easy to blame some small vendors for a more general problem. Getting rid of the vendors will actually make it worse, as it will not spur the City to do better at keeping clean, and the City will lose some of the cash flow that helps to pay for the maintenance of the City properties.

I would like to know:
1. What measures the City to address the foul mess: more bins? more pick up? fines for littering? obligation on food trucks to clean up after their customers?
2. What the City will do about abating the negligently designed parking on Long Wharf?
Thank you.
