The food trucks owners make tons of money, specialty in the warmer months. They all should get together and pay someone to pick the garbage their clients leave behind. The city has placed a whole bunch of trash cans and still the you see trash everywhere. I often drive by that area and it is always the same story. No where in the city you'll see more trash than as long wharf. Restaurants clean their places. Just because they are outdoors should not be a free ticket not to clean after their clients.

Tragic is the only way to describe the waterfront development on Long Wharf. The food trucks generate way more trash than the available trash bins. And garbage removal is too infrequent. With all the trash there will be scavenger animals (e.g. rats)--one would think the food truck owners would have an incentive to ensure proper sanitation? And the parallel parking spaces all up and down Long Wharf. Really? Not only is traffic needlessly backed up, accidents aren't even waiting to happen.
I would like to know:
1. What measures the City to address the foul mess: more bins? more pick up? fines for littering? obligation on food trucks to clean up after their customers?
2. What the City will do about abating the negligently designed parking on Long Wharf?

Ha! That's a joke. And Mondays are usually the worst days. I see the sanitation crews picking up on my way to work. They can't be there on the weekend or they would have to be paid Overtime is my guess. The City hired or used their engineers to redesign and improve that area to make it "safer." They sent them to my place of employment on Long Wharf to show anyone interested the plans and how proud they were of them. They were so excited to add the mostly unused bike path and add in those narrow parallel parking spots that giant 18 wheelers park in, not to mention that the food trucks themselves are too wide for as well as they spill out into the driving lanes as well. In their minds, it makes it safer because it FORCES drivers to slow down by making it so narrow and helps quell the illegal drag racing that was happening late at night and even sometimes during the day. While yes, I agree that the lanes are definitely wide enough for two cars to fit down going opposite directions simultaneously, it feels a lot more narrow than it is, causing most drivers to veer over the double-yellow line into oncoming traffic's lane because they fear that they are going to skin a food truck or perhaps get stuck on one of their flags blowing in the wind. It's an utter mess. And it's not the food truck owners' faults. Most of them try to keep their personal areas very clean.

I pass by the area every day in my way to work and often late at night in my way back home and often I've seen that the area where the trucks park is not as clean as some people may think. I live inNew Haven and I truly believe that the city has done more than enough to keep the area clean. My opinion is that it is the food trucks owners should be responsible to clean their area and clean after their clients.

Would requiring each truck have a trash bin of their own help? I think most people try and throw their garbage away but there aren’t enough bins. Make it part of the requirement for space usage. Their own bin, which they have to bag up and discard at the end of the day.
