There are also block-watch associations that can be organized and implemented to supplement the police patrols.. keep your street well lit and monitored.. and yes, cameras help some, but only after the fact. I doubt if the city is going to assign more coverage to this small area than to other neglected areas, sorry to say, as that means there are a lot of areas that need good coverage and don't get it.

This and the episode on Eld St. constitute a real cause of worry. I second the call for more policing.

When they capture them if it is discovered they have criminal records we should all protest in front of the judges' homes who gave them light sentences in the past. How can someone attached a 79 old man, too bad he did not have a gun permit. Then again if he did and used the gun to defend himself he would be labeled a racist . Folks it may be time to leave New Haven, you do not hear this happening in the surrounding towns. Has our mayor or alder spoken out about this?

It was time to elect a new mayor,, but,, there were actually some voting irregularities, and Harp is still in.
It's not that moving anywhere is going to solve all problems,, and not that guns solve problems either.. and, you say 'when' they capture them, instead of 'if' they capture them. If you are all going to do something.. it has to be more than just complain and protest.. there has to be some positive and constructive action.

A while back someone try to mug an older gentleman who had a gun in the in the Wooster Square area, the criminal was shot, arrest, and the innocent person was not injured.
You wrote, "there has to be some positive and constructive action". Don't you realize that there are some evil people out there who just can't live in society. It has always been that way but in the past they would be jailed. If you look at the murder rate in New Haven during the Depression you will see it was much lower then it is now. This was in an era where the economy was terrible and social programs did not exit like they do today.
As far as moving not solving all the problems, when was the last time you heard of something like what happen on Bradley Street happening in Branford or North Haven?

This is from an email about the assault of the 79 year old gentleman a few nights ago.

Dear all,

Charlie was assaulted and robbed on Friday night walking home from his office at 6:30 p.m., on Bradley Street near Whitney. He was jumped from behind and then was kicked and punched as he lay on the pavement, resulting in a badly-fractured patella, three broken ribs, two black eyes and lots of bruising. A neighbor on a bike happened by and yelled out (and was
threatened in return); he then called 911. (I think this unnamed person
saved his life, because the assailants then scattered.) Charlie somehow
managed to stagger home – though he remembers nothing of that. By the time
I called 911, I could hear the sirens already on the way.

The police are confident that they know the names of at least three of the
assailants. They were caught on video as one of the nearby buildings is
owned by Yale and has a security camera.
Okay? Share this info with anyone you want to – the New Haven police and Yale
police have been terrific, and they want to get these guys as much as we
do.

Nice to know the police have been terrific. Lets all hope they are caught, convicted, and the judge gives them a terrific sentence.

The police are listening. Waiting for their vacationing union for direction.Needing approval and orders from their overlords.
But at the end of the day it's still what the union hall chock full of attending administration also at 230 or whatever the number is College street is ( Unite Here , Local 34 &35)
The coffee houses where Human Resource employs attend , Chapel at Wall , High Street etc..
Hospitals ,especially Yale and it's "busy" Bio appendages that ALL demand a high police presence.
Rubbing elbows and hobnobbing etc. -yes probably entitlements also

A few temp residents in the ghetto asking , demanding a police presence also

This is in regards to 758 thur772 State Street corner Bradleey St The last of the street sweeping was done Friday and Monday with out posting any signs The problem is all the cars parked ther are NO CITY RESIDENC they are attorneys and workers parking from 7 am to 4 pm Monday thru. Friday THER IS A 2 HOUR PARKING LIMIT THAT IS NOT INFOCED MY TENANTS AND BUSINESSES HAVE A PROBLEM WITH PARKING WE NEED TO ENFORCE THE 2 HOUR PARKING IMMEDIATELY .

THE STREET IS UN SAFE DUE TO THE TRASH AND ACCUMULATION OF LEAVES UNABLED TO BE CLEANED AT THE CURB AND THE SEWAR IS LOADED

Has there been any follow-up on this? Thanks to "Resident" we know that the man who was attacked was injured fairly seriously - is he recovering well? And that the police seemed to be on the job, aware of who the assailants were - have there been any arrests? Any updates on the investigation?

About six weeks ago a Korean pianist studying at the Yale School of Music was badly beaten up on Eld St. Although no major injury resulted he was hospitalized with extensive facial bruising. I am not reporting this too send the neighborhood into panic, but just to support my intuition that a gang with initiation including beating someone (probably male). Waves of such attacks have occurred in the past, and have ended with police apprehension of the gang.

Michael thanks for the info of what happened on Eld St. Very disturbing!! Along with these viscous assaults there has been a number of home burglaries while the residents were home. Shouldn't those be considered "home invasions"? These very serious and scary crimes are just part of a larger increase in crime in are neighborhood. I did see beat cops walking the area a few days ago. I hope the NHPD keep up the patrols.

Does anyone know where to get user-friendly and up to date crime info? Crime stats from 2014 are not interesting!!! The useful site (NH Independent crimelog) is not working any more. I just spent 30 minutes signing up at http://spotcrime.com/, which is completely useless. All I get is crimes that happened in Bridgeport!!!
