The library is the regular hang out for a lot of prostitutes in between tricks (clean up in the bathroom) and a lot of drug dealers do their business in the library. And the creeps looking for kids. Not a lot can be expected of these folks, as they aren't there for the library's services.

Libraries are for everyone to use including children, babies, and adults. Programming at the library is very important and at times may become a little loud. However, if there is noise, then it is a good thing. Libraries have come along way since the "SHHHHH".

The noise is a huge problem with the library. Many university students including myself would love to go study there but visitors including staff talk way to loud. Ask any university or any post secondary student in pa. They will say the same thing

I agree that the library has gotten way too noisy. It's worse since they closed the lower floor and there is no quiet place to study. I don't expect it to be silent but some respect for people who are working and studying would be good. There are too many people who use it as a hangout. And the staff don't help. I've heard things not meant for the public. Where are their supervisors?

So Hermy what have you done to bring this to the attention of authorities, and in fact if this is true why hasn't something been done to change the habits, how come you know so much about who is a hooker and that they clean up there anyway... after all children are at this facility..

Yeah, I can just imagine the complaints the library would get if the staff ran around shushing everyone all day long. Get your books and be happy that there are still free services like this in the world to help get yourself through school.
And also, if it's so bad, why do you continue to go there? Perhaps all of the information that is searched out and found for you outweighs the staff conversing during their shifts?

I think Hermy complains about the noise, because he "works" there and when people are talking, combined with the heat since the poor chaps there don't have their ac fixed yet, it makes it hard for him to sleep.

Far be it from my norm to come to the defense of Mr H, but from personal experience, calling the authourities gets little to no results. You live in a bad neighbourhood? Police response: "move". Junkies are shooting up behind your store? Police response: "don't go back there". If the police haven't done anything to stop the problem, odds are they're not going to. And yes, the library is a frequent hang-out of the "bad" people, and I'm pretty sure they're not reading there.

I thought I saw a security guard working there last time I was in the library. If there is one there why isn't he/she doing thier job? if there isn't one shouldn't they be looking at hiring one? If it's a matter of the guard being scared to talk to them maybe find a new one. Or maybe john q public needs to start telling these people to hush up.

The staff should set a better example to the patrons. You go in there and the hired students are standing around talking and the other staff at the front desk are talking loud, laughing and not concentrating on their work. Who's in charge of this place and neglecting their responsibilities???

i stopped going to the library a LONG time ago..it's not a quiet, calm, relaxing place anymore..and it's really too bad they don't enforce any rules there. maybe if expectations/rules were posted as you walk in and they were enforced in might help.

I no longer go to the library and the main reason is the disruptive atmosphere. There are places in the world where noise is not welcome, and the library should be one of them. The staff is responsible for setting the tone and expectations, but the public should be responsive too. Absolute silence all the time??? No. But a general effort to remain quiet and to maintain a certain decorum...yes. The library should be a calm quiet place for people to read and study.

totally agree and don't know why it's not enforced in our city. i won't go there anymore, not that it matters to them. p.a. has changed so much for the worse...embarassing.

Isn't it a SHAME that Prince Albert has become such a dirty, lacking, community that one cannot even sit in their library and enjoy it. What's happened?!?
