Descrição

When it rains in New Haven, the rain water flows over streets, sidewalks and other impervious surfaces, picks up harmful pollutants and causes localized flooding. During some storms, this polluted runoff--called stormwater--inundates our combined storm and sewer pipes, causing raw sewage and polluted stormwater to overflow into our rivers untreated.

Join Save the Sound as we plant two rain gardens in the West River Watershed to help capture and filter stormwater runoff, and prevent sewer overflows to the West River, downstream. During this event, you will get a primer on New Haven's stormwater and sewer system, learn about rain gardens and other green infrastructure that can help address pollution, and get hands-on experience planting native plants that will capture and filter stormwater runoff.

Stormwater runoff causes pollution problems in our rivers and the Long Island Sound. Come be a part of the solution!
