A tractor trailer truck turning from Humphrey St onto Orange Ave damaged a utility pole. The blocks supporting the pole were knocked free, and now the pole--attached to overhead wires--is not in contact with the ground. It is suspended by the adjacent pole. UI Co Pole #2351
  • 607 Whitney Ave New Haven, Connecticut - East Rock
There is power line wrapped around a locust tree on Whitney Ave. The power line presumably became partially disconnected during a storm and then was wrapped around the tree to get it out of the way. It now appears to be girdling the tree and if it is not removed, it will kill the tree and become a hazard. Please have someone who is authorized to handle power lines come and remove the line from the tree.

When it rains in New Haven, the rain water flows over streets, sidewalks and other impervious surfaces, picks up harmful pollutants and causes localized flooding. During some storms, this polluted runoff--called stormwater--inundates our combined storm and sewer pipes, causing raw sewage and polluted stormwater to overflow into our rivers untreated.

Join Save the Sound as we plant two rain gardens in the West River Watershed to help capture and filter stormwater runoff, and prevent sewer overflows to the West River, downstream. During this event, you will get a primer on New Haven's stormwater and sewer system, learn about rain gardens and other green infrastructure that can help address pollution, and get hands-on experience planting native plants that will capture and filter stormwater runoff.

Stormwater runoff causes pollution problems in our rivers and the Long Island Sound. Come be a part of the solution!
