Description

I see Mothers and Children everyday crossing the street from Creston to Vessing Rd that crosses Geary. With the traffic,blind spots, and construction it has been a nightmare. Many are trying to get to local schools or home. Please put signs, a lighted crosswalk sign, or something which would enable safer travels for our littlest community of children.

One of the scary things about this junction is that it is not an intersection. At an intersection, we have to respect and respond to what others are doing in it. Cars entering Geary from Creston are watching Geary traffic but they are not paying attention to my car. I have witnessed several near misses turning left on Geary from a Creston car accelerating as they turn right on Geary and have almost hit Creston cars turning left on Geary as I accelerate while turning right from Vessing. I have also noticed cars zig-zagging from Creston to or from Vessing treating it as if it were one continuous street which is extremely dangerous if you are not expecting this and are turning left onto Geary from either street. This is compounded during the school year with people rushing to and from PHE and during the Summer with people going to swim practice at Larkey Private Swim Club. A flashing crosswalk and some means to warn people on Creston and Vessing to watch for each other when turning onto Geary is a must.

It would greatly increase the safety of our community if there was a crosswalk across Geary at Vessing or Creston. One of the advantages to living in this area is being within walking distance of many places. There are many families with kids living on both sides of Geary who's schooling or activities take them across Geary here frequently: PreSchool at Mary Janes, School at PHE and all it's special events, School at PHMS, Sports on the PHE and PHMS fields, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts at PHE, the Oak Park Christian Center and it's activities, The Larkey Private Swim Club, The Larkey Market (a popular spot for kids to get treats) and kids going to each others homes to hang out to name a few. Vessing is a feeder through PHE to Oak Park and 7-11, Safeway, PHMS and the Library too. It's very dangerous crossing Geary. The cars coming down Geary often travel at speeds above 45mph and it's difficult to find an opening with the traffic clear in both directions, especially at commute time. I've witnessed many dangerous crossings kids have made while in my car at the stop sign on Vessing. A proper crosswalk at this location would certainly help improve the safety for pedestrians significantly.
