I would like to see the hours of residential permit parking only expanded. Too often residents can not find a legal spot to park and end up with a parking ticket. The speed bump idea would be good, too. (Especially for Leap vans - the worst offender)

I live on the other side (the parking on both side area), and having parking on both sides is perfectly OK. In fact, Jefferson street is even narrower and it has parking on both sides. I think that Lyon if it's going to remain a 1-way street should definitely have parking on both sides!!
Speaking of LEAP vans, we might have to set up a seperate Clicket for them specifically or perhaps contact LEAP as a community. They frequently tear down Lyon at very high speeds, and then when they get to LEAP they simply stop in the middle of Jefferson street and block traffic while they load and unload. Several days ago 4 cars were waiting while the people in the Leap van were having a conversation with the light cycling twice. This was while there was a clear spot to the left that the van could have pulled into.

Pedro....I suggested to a city official to make a loading zone at Leap. Maybe a petition from the neighborhood?
Speaking of speeding Leap vans. One of them actually sped up when he saw me crossing the street in front of him.

I disagree with parking on two sides. I think we need to reconsider traffic flow direction to dissuade cars from using our half of the street as a shortcut to avoid the grand/ olive traffic light and congestion. Leap has a parking lot- they should use it for passenger pick-up and drop off.
Those with driveways should be encouraged to use them more efficiently and provide more access to their tenants. This alone would alleviate the parking overflow.
These measures combined with limiting non-residential parking would go a long way to fixing the problem without destroying the aesthetics.
I have spoken with city parking about these suggestions and they are willing to listen and talk. I suggest we organize a neighborhood meeting and reach a consensus and present it to the parking dept.

Thanks to the st. patrick's day parade, we can see what Lyon street looks like with parking on both sides of the street.
Many cars came and parked illegally on both sides, ending up in a very nice demonstration!

Is it possible to do angled parking on one side of the street? Does any one know the clearances require for that style of parking? I would be happy to do some measuring.

I think 15 ft is a good rule of thumb for angled parking, 8 ft for parallel parking.

Those are the distances from the curb (or depths), what are the lengths of each space?

This issue has not yet been fixed. It seems like a simple signage change to allow parking on the alternate side at least on street sweeping days, otherwise the whole street has to vacate for 8 hours for a 10 min sweep job. Otherwise, the city should give a more narrow window for the sweeping. The first option seems easiest as it provides a greater window for public works when they run into snags.

I live on Lyon and this is something that would truly increase the standard of living on our street. My partner is currently fighting a ticket from parking on other side on one of the street sweeping days. Interestingly enough there isn't a "no parking" sign near the area he parked or any signage for that matter. The no parking signs start soon thereafter until you reach Jefferson. On a side note between him and I this is about the 6th parking ticket we have contested within a year of being a resident of Lyon St.

This has been open for two years and yet is a small change. We might even be able to raise the money for the new signs from the people on the street even though eliminating the Mayor's the pothole/dumpster detective money would more than pay for it.

Parking on both sides would be great! It would alleviate a fair amount of stress, reduce speed-thru's, and increase available parking.

Quality of Life is a huge issue to me. That's why I bought on this street. Perhaps we can look at some simple solutions and new ideas first. Can we identify how many parking spots are actually required and be certain all those cars are registered to addresses on this street? Is there a way to provide an incentive for people to park in their driveways when they have one instead of parking on the street? How about asking the city to ticket those who consistently park on our street without permits or guest permits during the day and often don't leave until after 6 pm? Can we sit down with Traffic and Parking and ask them to provide some relief to ticketing on street sweeping days or at least to provide a viable alternative? If we go into Traffic and Parking with some concrete ideas, statistics, I'm certain we could get cooperation.

Lower Lyon has few driveways as compared to "upper" Lyon" (betw. Olive and Jefferson) where only a very few homes don't have a driveway. Those of us on the upper part of Lyon Street with driveways can't get out of our driveways if cars are parked on both sides. It's simply too tight. In the winter everything is exacerbated and even large snow piles keep us from getting out. Seems if folks are more careful where they park and make certain they leave room for their neighbors on the street, and it those who do have driveways and garages use them, there is adequate parking if we don't have others using our street as a free parking lot. Let's try changing the zoned parking to 24/7 and see if that coupled with enforcement won't make a huge difference.

People park on both sides of the street (illegally) all the time anyway. I've just submitted a request to have them ticketed. As a Lyon St. resident, it's frustrating to see people consistently, repeatedly skirting the parking regs.

Also, LyonResident makes a great point about snow removal. Remember the last big storm? Could you imagine if both sides were parked in? What a nightmare that would have been.

Actually, snow removal (when the city comes), works pretty well.
