p.s. Re Linden, I am speaking of the portion between Orange and Livingston, although I'm sure this may apply to the whole street.

Should we take the fact that the city is towing and ticketing cars as an indication that they will actually do their part in the future, and make sure the streets are properly plowed in a timely way? I wonder if the people in charge are aware of the fact that compliance with parking bans has been spotty for years, simply because we couldn't depend on the city to actually plow the odd side. Sometimes they did it a day or two later, but more frequently they never did it at all. And what about the even sides of the street? The only thing that makes sense is a schedule for alternate-side parking bans and plowing on BOTH sides of the street. If the city becomes reliable about snow clean-up, then everyone will accept that they two and ticket.

I absoulutey second RFM's comment about switching the ban to the other side of the street at some point after the odd side is plowed so that both sides will be plowed.

If I shovel out a spot for my own car, can I "claim" it with lawn furniture like they do in Boston?

My instinct is to say, "uh, no." For one thing, your furniture will almost certainly disappear, out of jerkiness (i.e. it'll be stolen) or out of annoyance (because I think most people feel that dibsing a space that way is uncool). I've lived in the neighborhood since 1999 and have never seen that system work here. The only way I know to "keep" a parking spot on the street is to not remove one's car from the spot.
