I second this. I regularly see people speeding on Halifax and Blount street, ignoring pedestrians. There is not a single traffic calming device (stop sign, speed limit sign, speed bumps) on these two busy streets and there are 3 schools, 3 bus stops, and multiple residential homes. How can we escalate this as a priority to prevent any tragedy happening? With the construction and increased traffic in the area, it will likely worsen without proper intervention.

My children actively play and ride their bikes in this area and people are speeding all the time. It’s almost as if they think this area is a race track. This areas full of children, the playground is right there next to the daycare, and there are always events for kids and adults going on at the community center. People are constantly walking their animals and crossing the street regularly. It’s not safe as it’s a straight shot from peace street and Halifax all the way down to cedar and Blount st. Sometimes looking both ways isn’t even enough because of how fast people fly down these roads. It’s a matter of seconds that can take a persons life. Please do something about this as the areas growing and everyone needs to be safe with playing in the neighborhood, riding their bikes, and actually being kids instead of constantly being stuck inside. We actively are doing our part to keep ourselves and children safe, please do yours in setting up these signs.

Thank you for alerting us to this area. The current speed limit for the streets listed are the state statutory unposted 35 mph. To reduce the speed limit, we need a resident to reach out and request the city evaluate to reduce the speed limit along their neighborhood street(s). With this request, you have begun the process and we will begin working towards neighborhood engagement with a goal of reducing and posting the speed limit along the streets at a 25 mph speed limit. You can expect engagement efforts to begin in the next 60 days or so.
