Yes, I'm also concerned about this problem.

This is a problem near so many schools in New Haven. I know the intersection of Yale/Edgewood is a similar problem in the mornings for Edgewood School.

Given the rampant speeding and running red lights throughout the City. This should be "low hanging fruit" and high priority for the cops: NO speeding in School zones.

there should absolutely be enforcement stings around schools!
maybe for a few days or a week, around each one.

It's sad that this is still going on, just this morning I almost got hit by a car because the driver felt I was in the wrong for crossing when i had the right of way. Last week I saw for the first time a police car # 62 parked in the parking lot of the complex across from Amistad Academy......all along people are speeding and he's there just parked. Was this done so no one could say the police aren't seen....we don't just need to see them...we need to see them doing their job. Is nothing going to be done until someone gets hit by a car and dies????? Is that what it's going to take? Sad....just SAD

The SPEEDING through Edgewood and Dwight is still going on. This is crazy, a couple of these SPEEDERS are Parents coming out from the parking lot having picked up their child at Amistad, don't these people stop to think, this is someones child you could hurt. Amistad Academy hours : 7:15 - 5:00, so there are children in that area as early as 7am and as late as 5:45 . The lighting in that area isn't the best and asking to have a Police Officer, Preferably Stationed in Front of the Schools is not too much to ask. If TWO Police Cars could be parked in the BACK AREA of the Parking Lot (only visible if walking) while cars are SPEEDING by, going through red lights then they are clearly NOT being seen or even see what's going on, then they could park in Front of the Schools and be VISIBLE, then maybe people might begin to slow down. I know this is an issue for all the Schools in the Edgewood area but at least the other Schools have a crossing guard looking out for their walkers, Amistad Academy has absolutely NOTHING. Hopefully something will be done.

No the problem hasn't been fixed....there is still no crossing guard in the area....still no VISIBLE police posted in front of or near Amistad. Isn't there enough people getting hurt here in New Haven ??? If by Policing the area during the early morning hours (7am-7:30) and the evening (4:45-5:30) a tragedy could be prevented.....then why not do something ????? By the time the kids get out it's extremely dark in that area and with these speed demons, something is bound to happen. If the New Haven Police can't do it then a crossing guard needs to be out there but something needs to be done.

No this issue is still not resolved...."There is an update though".....There is now a crossing guard posted at the corner of Garden Street and Edgewood which is right in front of the substation....now the problem is on Dwight and Edgewood. I saw a police officer sitting in his car which was parked on the sidewalk right in front of the substation.. (Why Both Are Stationed In The Exact Same Area...I don't know) ..guess what...he was reading the paper and was not keeping an eye on anything. I happen to get a ride that day and while waiting for the opportunity to turn on to Edgewood a car sped by, cut off the School Bus going into Amistad and ended up being someone dropping off a child to School....and we noticed that this all happened "WHILE THE OFFICER SAT IN HIS CAR AND READ HIS PAPER',,,wow.....QUESTION: Why , if a crossing guard is already tending to the children on Garden St, why can't the Police post themselves on the corner of Dwight where the running the red light. I have been at this for a couple of months now and have YET to see Police in that area do anything to make their presence visibly known (KEY WORD: VISIBLE) and prevent what could be an ugly accident. What the NHPD fails to understand is that people take these chances because they are used to NOT having POLICE in the area, so if you let people SEE YOU, a difference would actually be made. I know that this may not be a priority for them with so much going on in New haven but would it really be that much of an issue to post someone at that corner so just the sight of a visible Police Car would make people slow down....they could still read their paper and at the same time put an end to the speeding. I would love to see a Police car posted in the corner of ALL the Schools , we have to protect our children.
