Wow it is now 2:12pm and the cars are still and no tickets?

I have to assume that the Stoneham police department is grossly understaffed. I can't figure out why it is such a major problem to get them to enforce the parking laws. To me it seems fairly simple to drive to the violation, issue a ticket, and be on their way.

They shouldn't have to wait for a complaint or even go out of their way looking. Just driving around town you can see it everywhere.

I would like to hear from the police department as to their position on this. They have been silent in these posts. All we see is the police department has been assigned the issue.

Is the public going to have to fight this issue one violation at a time?

How can this be! ? If the Police aren't going to do their job, please chime in and let us know what the problem is. It's a shame to see the DPW having to wait days to do their job. Is the chief even aware of this issue or is it just a dispatcher who doesn't carem

Kathleen I could not agree more. Even though I'm new to this area and I have taken the time to do research on this matter and it appears to me that a police detail is required when this type of work is being done. According to the town by-laws. Am I to assume one was not present?

Jim, good point. Unfortunately referring to town bylaws does carry much weight. The key issue here and in other issues posted on this site is the widespread violation of the bylaw prohibiting parking on sidewalks. The police, who do an overall good job, have seem to drop the ball on this problem.

Town code chapter 8-2 spells it out clearly as well as official postings on the town site.

No person shall drive any horse or vehicle, except baby or invalid carriages, upon any sidewalk nor allow any vehicle to stand upon or obstruct any sidewalk or crosswalk,

Residents are particularly reminded that parking is not permitted on sidewalks at any time. This often becomes a problem in the winter when residents attempt to comply with winter parking restrictions by placing cars on the sidewalk.

This is not only illegal – it is also dangerous for pedestrians trying to negotiate the sidewalks in already difficult circumstances.

Thank you! People just don't seem to any regard for public safety if their car mirror may be picked off by a passing car. My other point in this complaint is the "No Parking" signs these cars are parked in front of as well. I'm sure at some point today I will be driving down Montvale Ave and those same vehicles will be parked on Lindenwood Rd.

The police department made contact with the owners of these vehicles and advised them to refrain from parking in this area in the future.
