There is an epidemic problem of kids on bikes on the sidewalks (particularly in the Church/Chapel/Orange area), and our police department with a substation on the block is not enforcing it (or otherwise, is asleep at the switch). Today, I am almost blindsided by a little fool on the right with one inch to spare. Honestly, when will this be enforced? Ya think you can get two (of maybe the six or seven) officers parked on the Green doing nothing and put maybe one or two of them on the sidewalk? (Or is that too much work?). And wonder why that Elm City Market closed? Like who is stupid enough to take a chance with their lives walking on these streets? Honestly....

It's not only kids, but adults too. It's easier to travel about downtown on a bike or scooter than by car. There needs to be more respect for bicyclists, and accommodations. But it's dangerous to use the street. I would like to see improvement in education for bicyclists on 'rules of the road', in the schools and published generally,, and better accommodations for cyclists.
About the police presence. I agree that we need the police to get out of their cars and to doing the community work that they are supposed to do. They need better training to do that in today's world where they are specially targeted by terrorists. But we are not Iraq, we don't cower.
