Saturday 9/20/14 about 4p.m. the noise level from microphones on the Green was so loud you could hear it from blocks away. This has happened on a number of Saturday afternoons. It is a group of people on the green, I believe with a permit for a meeting. the problem is it is much too loud. It disrupts quality of life for people waiting for the busses, library and church use as well as passing cars and classes at Gateway and Yale!

Amen! Two men were shouting at close range into the microphones, and the amps were turned up so far that it was LOUD and annoying all the way at the other end of the green. I understand that some people feel strongly about wanting to celebrate and promote their affection for Jesus Christ (the subject of all the amplified shouting), but this seems an inappropriate use of our town's main public space. It would be so nice to be able to use the Green for reading, picnicking, or talking with friends on a fine Saturday afternoon, and this kind of activity really prevents that from happening.

It was an extremely high decibel level that was deafening from a block away. I've never heard any sound system that loud in the Green!

I have heard things that loud. Most of the concerts on the Green are so deafening that I can't bear to listen to them. Every year I try, and wind up leaving. It's typical of amateur sound technicians, who equate loud with good. The city should simply determine a limit to the decibel level, measured along the perimeter of the park.

I know the noise ordinance has specific hours to quiet down, but does anyone know if there are decibel restrictions during daytime hours as well? I think the police restrict car radios and motorcycles...

The upside is that they went some way toward drowning out all the motorcycles with straight-pipes and the cars blasting teeth-rattling music that seem to take over our downtown streets on weekends. But it would be so nice if the answer to New Haven's pervasive sonic assaults could be tickets for noise pollution instead of just more loud noise.

Tomorrow is Saturday again and the stage is set up...can we please have the events be kept at a reasonable decibel level? Any event be it a concert, protest, picnic, church service, etc. should be welcome in a public space, but I was taught your rights are only limited when they encroach on someone else's equal rights.
