Large pothole. Very large. One could describe it as a crater.

Sidewalk closure that affects pedestrian safety. There is nowhere that is safe to walk, and people are forced onto Route 60. There are no pedestrian lights that allow us to cross Rt. 60 safely from the east side to avoid the closure.

I have posted about this previously, 6 days ago, and despite strong interest from the community, as evidenced by votes and comments, no city or police official has responded yet. Please assign this to someone who can respond in a very timely way.

All that is needed is to cone off the area so that pedestrians have a safe place to walk. As lanes have been coned off all over the city for construction projects, this seems like a very small thing to ask.

This sidewalk is closed but there is no effective detour when walking west, from Franklin Street (my home) towards the Malden Center train station. In fact, the sign stating the sidewalk is closed is only present in the other direction. And there is no safe way to cross Rt. 60 from Franklin Street to the point of the closure; a pedestrian-light is only present on the other side of the closure. Further, if I were to cross over Rt. 60 on my way home there would be no way to get back across after the detour, for the same reason. This morning I ended up walking right past a bunch of large construction equipment that was in use, and hoping that the operators saw me. Perhaps coning off that part of Rt. 60 so people could walk safely would be a better approach.

Could the lights in the stairwells at the Jackson St garage get fixed? They are intermittently dark in some places, on the lower floors.

How long will the lane closures on Rt 60 continue? I've pretty much given up driving because it takes so long, but walking is no picnic either. On both routes I can walk, there are missing sidewalks and streetlights, making it dark and unsafe. Is there anyone in city government advocating for the thousands of people who live in Malden and pay taxes here? As a resident, I am in disbelief over how bad it has gotten.

A clearer photo of the vehicle, since the app only allows one per report. Also, please be aware that the nearest crosswalk with a pedestrian light on the other side of this truck is quite a distance away.

Kudos. Not only is the sidewalk still blocked, apparently overnight, after posting about it this morning, but here is a photo of a mom who had to wheel her baby in a carriage on route to get around the truck. The total disregard being shown to Malden residents is really extraordinary.

Couldn't the sidewalk along route 60 be left clear for pedestrians? It's one thing for me to be forced into the road, but I hate to see the kids walking to school be put into an unsafe situation. Or at least have someone stationed to direct people around? I have to walk by this site every day now and I feel like it is getting steadily more difficult to do a commute to the train station.

Why is this lane closed? There is no apparent reason. No cranes, workers or vehicles in this immediate area. As if five simultaneous construction projects in one square mile were not inconvenience enough, it's almost as if there is an attempt to disrupt the commutes of Malden residents as much as possible.

Please make it easier for people to get recycling stickers!

Given the new emphasis on dual stream recycling, a lot of people will find it more practical to affix stickers onto trash cans than to get two blue bins. But how does one get the sticker(s) to do this? DPW is only open 8-4, M-F. For most working people these hours don't let us access DPW. For instance, to work 9-5, I leave before 8am and arrive home after 6pm. Could the stickers be made available outside of those hours, at least until people get up to speed with the new program? Or could they be accessible at someplace that is open 24/7, like the Police Station?

    Thank you!

I've been told that Malden has a city ordinance prohibiting smoking within 15 feet of any entrance or exit way of a building. If this is really true, is there a way to clear the smokers (many of whom are employees) from the entrance to the Stop and Shop? They are always in the area by the door. There is frequently a detail police officer working at that store. Could they start enforcing the rule? Thanks!

The blue Malden City garbage bags have a horrible chemical smell. This seems to be a new problem; I have noticed it over the past few weeks, and many other people in the community have commented on this as well. Can something be done? It makes taking out the trash an even more unpleasant task than usual.

I would appreciate a phone call from DPW on this issue. The larger question I have is whether or not the bags can be replaced by bins by those who are willing to pay an annual fee for them. They would be much more convenient and less wasteful of plastic, as the current system requires double-wrapping everything.

This area, right in front of 112 Franklin Street, is STILL very unsafe for pedestrians, who are forced to walk in the already crowded street. Somehow the sidewalk is impossible to shovel, but this house's driveway is spotless? Can't the owners work on it? Or can the city take care of it? Just leaving it as-is isn't a solution.

This step at the Jackson Street garage has completely crumbled. The management response seems to be to put up signage. When will it be fixed?

Particularly maddening is that the steps have been unswept since the snow began so long ago. They keep throwing down salt, but do not bother to sweep it up, and this is causing the steps to crumble. Even now that this one step had the problem, there has been no effort at sweeping, so I'd expect this problem to get worse and affect other parts of the stairs. This is a public garage that should be better maintained with respect to safety.

Unshoveled sidewalk. This residence never shovels their sidewalk. It forces people into the street even though the properties around it are taken care of.
  • 746 Main Street Malden, Massachusetts - Malden Ward 4
If this street is going to have parking in the winter, the snow should be cleared so they can park against the curb without obstructing traffic. I watched an ambulance try to get through this packed street today and there was no wiggle room for cars to move out of the way, because of the parking situation.
  • 200-212 Commercial Street Malden, Massachusetts - Malden Ward 1
I don't know the exact address, but it between the intersection of Riverside and the Super 88 Market, on Commercial Street. I noticed a young couple walking in the road (Commercial St.) with their little baby in a carrier. This is heartbreaking and super-scary; it would only take a driver's inattention for a moment for them to be hit. Please make sure the sidewalks on Commercial Street are clear. Some people have no choice but to walk, particularly with the current unreliability of the MBTA buses.

Completely not shoveled. This is the case year after year. Please cite the management company.
  • 180 Exchange Street Malden, Massachusetts - Malden Ward 4
The Jackson Street Garage hasn't been shoveled or treated for snow since the previous blizzard. I have asked the Mayor before if some of Malden's parking garages and lots could be leased to a management company more motivated towards customer service than Laz Parking, rather than them having a monopoly. Competition would result in better conditions for those of us who have to use the garages. The conditions are unsafe, and repeated requests directly to the management company have yielded no results.
