Description
How long will the lane closures on Rt 60 continue? I've pretty much given up driving because it takes so long, but walking is no picnic either. On both routes I can walk, there are missing sidewalks and streetlights, making it dark and unsafe. Is there anyone in city government advocating for the thousands of people who live in Malden and pay taxes here? As a resident, I am in disbelief over how bad it has gotten.

Hi Beth C, the lane closure in the area of Jackson Street will continue for the near future. The good news is that the sidewalks have been completed at that site ( Rt. 60 side ). This will expedite both the opening of the lane and the sidewalk. Sorry for any inconvenience this has caused you. As far as the street lights on the Exchange Street side of the project, new highly visible street lights will be installed as soon as possible.
The storage unit project being built on Rt. 60 at Bryant Street is in full swing. The sidewalks have been closed on that block of Rt.60. Signs posted direct pedestrians to cross over Rt.60 before and/or after the development by using the crosswalks.
