707 Shirley Street Winthrop, Massachusetts, 02152 - Winthrop
As I was returning from my walk around town, I noticed this signage. It is parallel to the town landing parking lot. The signage is to warn motorists as they continue down Shirley Street towards the curve by Yirrell Beach. The thing is, no motorist is going to see it given its current placement [stuck between two utility poles]. I barely noticed it and I was on foot. The sign needs to be repositioned to a utility pole where it will be visible to motorists. The current location makes zero sense from a traffic and public safety perspective.

Submitting on behalf of another Point Shirley resident. Motor vehicle operators park on Tafts Avenue almost up to Otis Street and often blocking the handicap access off the sidewalk. In addition, those residents who live on the ocean side (private way) of Otis often have a very difficult time making a right hand turn onto Tafts Ave, because there are vehicles parked almost to the corner and creating an obstruction. Installation of a "No Parking Here to Corner" would immediately eradicate this problem.

Can you please have the appropriate personnel check to ensure the crossing pedestrian lights on both Crest Ave locations are working? The ones by Antique Table and further up past the optometry store? Two different residents have stated that the flashing lights at the crosswalk do not appear to be working consistently.

We live at 7 Maryland Avenue - perpendicular to Tafts Avenue. Each time the MBTA/Paul Revere Buses or the Tanker Trucks head towards or away from Deer Island on Tafts Avenue and pass Maryland Avenue, they bottom out on the roadway, make a very loud slamming noise and our home will actually vibrate and shake. There is an instability of the roadway.
  • 89 Tafts Ave Winthrop, MA, 02152, USA - Winthrop
The sidewalk outside of 89 Tafts Avenue (corner of Tafts and Maryland Avenue) is covered in broken asphalt from the roadway. It really is a mess. The asphalt is all torn up on the street and the snow plowing has put it all up on the sidewalk outside the resident's home.

The entire grassy area between the seawall/sidewalk and Shirley Street at Yirrell Beach needs to be 100% clear cut with a deck mower. We have trash and debris getting caught up in the grass and rodents (rats and skunks) hiding in the grass. Using a grass edger and lightly trimming it won't correct this problem.

Repair work was done about two years ago on underground infrastructure after there was a water main/pipe rupture on Tafts Avenue. The street at the end of Maryland Avenue was torn up to repair the pipes underneath the street. As you can see from this one photo, the street has several depressions and ruts. The asphalt appears to have sunken further. Residents cannot make the turn onto Maryland from Tafts without essentially bottoming out on this area. It really needs to be addressed. I took several photos, but was only able to upload a single photo. DPW will see exactly what I am referencing upon inspection of the street.

We are having a skunk issue in Point Shirley right near the entrance to Yirrell Beach on Shirley Street. The grassy area between the sidewalk that runs parallel to Yirrell Beach and Shirley is overgrown and the grass needs to be trimmed. Skunks are hiding in there at night and pedestrians and their pets are running a very high risk of being sprayed by these critters. If the grass is trimmed/cut low, it will improve safety and visibility.
