Other ArchivedUs-231 S Huntsville 35801, United States - HuntsvilleThe bike lane that begins by parkway place mall and goes west along drake to the Parkway ends under the parkway. It’s a nice idea to have a lane, but it ends and leaves cyclists in a bad position b/c they haven’t taken a space in the regular driving lane (and motorists don’t yield because just 100 ft ago the cyclist was in their own lane) and there is merging traffic from the south parkway service road turning onto drake in that same area as well. The lane should’ve continued either to Leeman ferry or possibly Brahm springs if budget allows with some signage indicating to motorists & cyclists that it is about to end and that bikes will merge left and cars need to yield.

2003 Drake Ave Sw Huntsville, AL 35801, USA - HuntsvilleWhen traveling west on Drake in the bike lane, it ends at Memorial Pkwy so that when you get out from under the overpass you are over where the bike lane was and not 'taking a lane' because the cars that were traveling alongside the bike lane aren't aware that you suddenly have no lane did there is merging traffic from the turn lane from Southbound service Rd going west onto drake.
The bike lane should get you through the underpass and merge lane prior to ending. And/or use sharrows to indicate that bikes use the lane too. -
crosswalk button inaccessible Archived564-572 Drake Avenue Southwest Huntsville, Alabama - HuntsvilleThe crosswalk button at the NE corner of Drake & memorial parkway (located next to the Parkway Place Mall parking garage). Is very difficult to access. It is on a small hill, surrounded by curbing on the street side and then surrounded by shrubs. A person in a wheel chair would have NO way to access this button. I was pushing my stroller and had to park stroller, then squeeze through the bushes (an average to larger person could not have). Additionally, once I was given the crossing signal, the turning lane had a red light, but I had a very hard time getting the drivers to yield to me (the site line isn't very good and drivers weren't really stopping before doing a 'right on red'). Perhaps a 'yield to pedestrian' sign would help, or a red arrow signal while the pedestrian crossing is in use.
