This is a waste of taxpayer money and an intrusion on private property rights. Who owns the property now? There is nothing wrong with the sandy bridge it has a pedestrian crossing on it.

I live close to the old tracks. The rails were taken out . Left the ties a few years ago. A lot of weeds
have grown up. A lot of people use it from Hibbert Rd t o Brecks Rd. 4 wheelers and people just
walk it. I've been through that tunnel many times. Very run down. It would be really a nice trail for
walking and bikes.If you don't like it. Leave it be. Don'y try to ruin it for other people.

Montour Tunnel as example for Cottage Hill Tunnel connecting Du Bois and Sandy Township.

The City of Du Bois is constructing an underpass under the Liberty Boulevard (Rte. 219) for the bicyclists and pedestrians using the beautiful Beaver Meadow Walkway. This underpass is a critical link for an inter-community greenway connecting Sandy, Du Bois, Falls Creek and Brockway. Well done guys.

There is a proposal before the North Central PA Planning Commission to reopen the rail line and right of way from Du Bois to Curwensville. This would serve as a wonderful rail trail along historic Anderson Creek and bring substantial tourism and investment to Clearfield County. A Du Bois-Sandy Greenway could serve as an I-80 PA Wilds traihead to Curwensville and Clearfield, north to Brockway trails, and eventually east to Penfield and Elk Country. I'm sure there is much local interest and funding support for such a study. Hopefully, the Corman Railroad will quickly clear all outstanding right of way legal issues.

The safety of bikers and hikers is the prime concern. The first minute of this video from a popular rail trial near Jim Thorp shows how it is done. DuBOIS — Sandy Township and the City of DuBois are working together to plan a connector trail from the DuBois City Park to the Wolf Run Rails To Trails trailhead located off of Tannery Row Road in Sandy Township near Falls Creek.

“The connector trail will go through both communities providing enhanced recreational opportunities,” said township Manager Shawn Arbaugh.

Both the city and the township have agreed to provide the matching funds — $10,000 apiece — needed for the grant application.

Many generations of former and current residents have related adventures, stories and local traditions about the Highland Street Tunnel, and voiced support of a Walkway connecting DuBois and Sandy through the Highland Street Tunnel by posting home made videos and photos on this GoDuBois thread.

A survey is now being planned by the DuBois-Sandy Recreation Subcommittee seeking recreational ideas from DuBois-Sandy residents on future unplanned projects.

The proposal for the consideration of the DuBois-Sandy Recreation Subcommittee is titled:

“Connecting DuBois and Sandy Township: Building a Walkway from a West Sandy Trailhead near Triangle Springs through the Highland Street Tunnel to Shaffer Road and the DuBois Mall.”

It is hoped that DuBois-Sandy residents and organizations will consider the merits of this proposal for discussion and inclusion in the upcoming survey.
