To BobL - Hammerhead? Really? So you suggest that it would be okay for anyone to cover the sidewalk with an impassable pile of snow for more than 2 months?

Under the premise this it was easy enough to walk around, that makes it ok not to remove? Heck, that make the need to clear my sidewalk go away as well. Anyone can walk in the street by my place to get around the snow covered walk. There is not a lot of traffic at all. Good call Bob.

To BobL - People need to follow the laws not make up excuses why they can ignore them.

I like to walk, but in this particular area it would become difficult to traverse the mountain of snow-ice that exists. That fact that anyone does or does not walk here is not the point. The point is that there are snow removal rules that are supposed to be enforced equally for all. And in this case those rules/laws are being ignored.

So you do not walk on this side walk. I walk in this area and I had no difficulty traversing this pile of snow or walking around it. Stop whining.

I do walk, but avoid that particular area just for the simple fact that is not properly cleared. As I stated in the previous post that particular portion of the sidewalk is impassable. How would you expect anyone to walk on it. I know people that were ticketed for not clearing their sidewalks and the fact that this particular place has been the same way for 2 months is a clear and simple violation of city ordinances. Simple Fact. Whining or not.

Think of yourself as Sir Edmund Hillary and you are going to be the first person to climb that snow pile. Better hurry it is melting quick.

Snow pile, I'm w you on this. Presumably it will always snow in MI and the snow will always cause some inconveniences. Get along, find a way to be helpful n stop whining. In my neighborhood some one complained about an unshoveled walk and referenced the need for people who push baby strollers, wheelchairs or elderly to be able to make their way on the sidewalk. Writer stated he doesn't ALLOW his elderly mother to walk on unshoveled walks.(The lady does have a car. She's not walking out of necessity.) Can't imagine why mobility challenged people would have been out for a pleasure walk in the severe MI winter we just had?! How many days were schools closed? I wonder how many people were tempted to walk baby in the stroller on the days the city warned us to just stay indoors?! PLEASE folks be part of good use of our already strained tax dollars. If we can solve a non-issue item ourselves don't overburden code compliance w issues where common sense could prevail.

There are many people like myself who do not own CARS, do not have $$$$ for cabs (CATA or regular),or busses.
WE have NO CHOICE except to W_A_L_K to stores to get food, medicine, soap, TOILET PAPER (to wipe your stupid @#$%).

There is no REASON for me to walk around a snow pile on a public sidewalk just so a business to have an EXTRA parking space!
If there is too much snow to contain on their property Then thy can PAY $$$$$ to have it hauled away if that one space is so badly needed, or they can use a PROPANE torch to MELT the snow, problem solved.
It does not mater how many days schools were closed.

Is it my fault you are not smart enough to get a good paying job so you can buy a car? I mean come on, this is Lansing Michigan and public transportation is horrific. I am gone now this year but hoping I will be back next year. Just walk around me.

Hammerhead, actually wondering how you suppose I'm supporting a business owner? About tax dollars and their use...it doesn't sound like you're a property owner but feel free to correct me. You state you can't even afford a bus ride...is that because all of your paycheck goes to paying your mortgage? If you are struggling to get by free food, clothing, utilities, medication, health and dental care, bus passes, rent or home ownership, and yes even soap are available to you. Why are you living so meagerly? Who payed for the computer you're using to comment and the internet connection monthly? Luxuries such as computer use and internet service are free at the library.

I do not take handouts, I am living on Social Security income that I E_A_R_N_E_D during my working life, I ended up on it 14 years ago as Disability Income after Lung / Heart Failure not that I owe you an explanation.
The computer I am using was left to me by my Nephew when HE died from LUNG/HEART FAILURE AT 25!
Before you open your mouth about his life styles he was on OXYGEN from the day he was born until HE died. HE is/was 10 times the person you will ever be!

The point you seem to be missing is that THE LAW IS THE LAW!
SIDEWALKS are to be kept clear of SNOW, IF you do not like the LAW start a petition to change the LAW, BUT until it is changed OBEY THE LAW!
