Whether or not you want to park there, whenever you see this, move the bins to the sidewalk and tear off the signs. The residents have no right to leave bins in the road to reserve a spot that isn't "theirs". No public street can be owned by any resident regardless of who shoveled.

And I second the suggestion to use bologna if they are putting stuff onto your car. Oil on the windshield is another good one!

I understand wanting to "reserve" a space that you spent hours shoveling... but at the end of the day this is public space, and they have no right to reserve anything. Move their bins, and ignore the threatening notes.

before you retaliate in any way make sure you reduce your comprehensive deductible. I just reduced mine from $500 to $100 and it only cost me $13/ year. These sound like the type of self-centered people who will key your car too.

I agree with Gauss- As much hard work as you put into clearing the spot- you move you lose. PUBLIC SPACE IS JUST THAT. Next time save the sign and call the PD. Let them explain the law- Don't get into confrontations with ignorant, self righteous people. That's why we pay Police.
Retaliation only leads to more trouble. Karma does come back, you just don't know when.

The police came and left a note on their bin telling them to stop using their trash cans. However, it has just resulted in them removing the sign from their trash can, but they are still using the trash can to save the space.

Please continue to take photos of the bins in the street and then push them to the sidewalk. Upload the pictures here, or start a new thread as this one has already been "acknowledged." I removed bins from a spot on Foster today. It's important that we stop this practice before others copy it. I don't like digging out multiple spots but that doesn't make me break the law.

The city street is public property and cannot be reserved in this manner. You are entitled to park in any legal on street parking space, and in the event of such activities you would just need to move the cans back on the walk. As far as feeling threatened, that would be a police issue and I would encourage you to reach NHPD at (203)946-6316, or by calling 911 if it is an emergency. Thank you.
