I want to clean up the sidewalk tree planter after the winter and I am apprehensive about getting cut up with a ll the broken shattered glass there. It is unsightly and doesn't mak e a very good impression of New haven especially since we are Realtors selling and renting in New Haven and don't want us to look crime invested!
Rake, shovel, gloves, etc. Not trying to be sarcastic, but it seems like a practical fix. Ideally the guy with the broken window or the city should have cleaned it up, but some people in our neighborhood even help clean elderly neighbors yards. Also, I believe Freddie Fixer Day is also a Dixwell neighborhood clean-up day. Maybe you can recruit some neighbors to help...
Yes, of course I can clean it up and I probably will. Just thought it is on city property and since they cut down my flowers I had in the square that surrounded the city planted tree, I figured they didn't want me to touch that area as it didn't belong to me. I'm the one who wanted to beautify the tree squares on Wooster Street and have everyone plant seasonal flowers as I do. Spring, Summer and Fall I have beautiful flowers in planters and in the square.. I am the only one that does it and am always cleaning up trash, cigarette butts, wrapers etc in my ally, in the front and the rear of the building. Everyone comments how nice it looks as they see me out there planting, sweeping and generally cleaning up. I just thought the city can clean up the broken glass, since they had time to clean out the planters a few months ago and destroyed all my nice plantings. It is non problem, I guess I will just do it!
Please be respectful of your neighbors on SeeClickFix. Barbara was clearly looking for help from a neighbor or the city. If you're not going to help her out, please do not use SCF to be nasty. Comments that are unneighborly and unconstructive will be removed.
I was not trying to be unneighborly. I truly believe it is up to us to maintain our neighborhoods. If a city crew had to be sent out every time there was trash on the ground, imagine how many less teachers we would have. Just get out there and do it.
I cleaned up the glass myself, although it is impossible to get all of the shattered Glass up as there are hundreds of minute pieces. I also cleaned up the whole tree square and turned over the soil, cleaned out debris & weeds preparing It for spring plantings.
Thanks for those who responded, with the exception of some sarcastic and nasty responses which were uncalled for and I didn't appreciate.

They do make these things, sometimes made of leather.. I think they are called gloves? Yea, thats them.. Something as simple as this even you can do.
You may not OWN the property, but you are trying to profit from it, clean it up. It might pay off in the long run.
