You should create a watch area for your city councilman as well so that they receive alerts when these issues are entered and commented on.

Some of that traffic used to take plaza St. as a detour around Union. Since they put in a bike lane on Plaza it's backed up too. The irony is that bike lane is always empty.

This whole area could be one of the world's great plazas, but it is a mess. Now that subway fares have been raised, don't expect the traffic to go away.

The bike lane is empty because it's hazardous - too many drivers either speeding through it or parked in it. The writer is suffering from behind the windshield thinking - if there was another lane on Plaza Street for car traffic, Union Street at the Plaza would be more backed up, not less. In NYC, you should be asking yourself, if I'm in a hurry, why am Idriving?
