@SIGN FOR PACKAGE - Great advice!

Sorry to hear this is happening again. Unfortunately 'Sign For Package' isn't an acceptable alternative for some folks. I've called UPS and put a note up asking that packages be placed at the back of the house. It seems to help but I guess if someone is watching the truck I'm going to lose the package no matter where it's placed. We need more neighbors to keep their eyes open and hopefully we'll snag this low life thief.

I'm sorry to hear that as well. I live on West Rock and have many packages left on front stoop w/o an issue. However, they do place some of the larger ones on my back porch.

Yes, but a lot of companies ship w/o even offering "signature required," so the more of us who contact UPS to let them know never to leave something in full street view within the city limits of New Haven, the better. You should also put up a sign for the driver, although some of them ignore this. If they do, complain to their supervisor.

This is a problem every year around Christmas for sure. They follow the trucks, wait for drop offs and then grab. Do what I did, put up a sign on the inside of your door visible from the outside rejecting ALL packages from being dropped off and that you will pick it up the following day at the UPS station. Its a pain in the butt but ensures you get your stuff. Alternatively, you can have things shipped to your job if acceptable.

Closing this early 2011 issue. As the holiday's approach (but also year-round, as this issue made clear), please keep an eye out for package thieves. If you see suspicious activity, call 911. If you know of thefts in the areas but don't see them in process, please make sure they are reported to non-emergency (946-6316) and post to SCF to alert your neighbors.
