The existing pavement markings on northbound Six Forks Road for the center turn lane are currently yellow solid/broken for a two way left turn lane. These marking are appropriate and do not prevent vehicles from getting into the left turn lane. The city did conduct a study to see if a left turn bay with the white lines is warranted. It was found that a very small percentage of vehicles on Six Forks Road are making this left turn and there have not been any crashes indicating that vehicles are having an issue using the left turn lane to make this turn. At this time the city does not recommend changing the pavement markings however when Six Forks is resurfaced in the future, revisions to the pavement markings can be looked into.
