The catch basins in City Point south of I-95 were cleaned on 12/5/13 and 12/6/13. If you look at the lintel above the grating you will see a red spot 3ins in diameter indicating the CBs that were cleaned. (There will be an occasional CB that does not have the marking as it was not cleaned due to a car being parked over it). The area has been checked out today (12/11/13), and no odor was noted emanating from catch basins, or in the air generally. The intersection of Hallock and Sea Street is approximately 100 yards from the Boulevard Pumping Station which pumps raw sewage beneath the harbor to the treatment plant on the east shore. It is the most likely source of a sewage smell in this area. If a strong smell is noted in the area generally then GNHWPCA should be contacted. If there is a localized smell at the grating of catch basin, or within a few feet of it, then the Engineering Dept should be contacted (203 946-8094 or 203 946-6417). Please note that the city's infrastructure in this area is well over 100 years old, and minor odors are inevitable. Also, the salt marsh rots at this time of year and is a source of unpleasant odors.
