Instead of using the public sewer system, this particular house drains their shower water through a pipe onto the sidewalk and street daily between 6:30-8:00am. Sudsy, soapy water is not safe for children to play in or animals to accidentally drink. This is a health hazard, but the city building department does nothing- when we've reported this, we were told the women who live there claim it is a pipe from a sump pump. Well, none of the other sump pumps on the hill have run for over a week (it hasn't rained for 9 days!) and when they do run, it is not with scented bubbling water at the same time we happen to shower, it is after (or during a storm)- the women in this house have no respect for the environment or people around them.

This is not only disgusting, but illegal. Any idea what is being done about this?

I would call Bill Norton (937-3591) in the Engineering Department in City Hall. He is the troubleshooter between the city and the sewer plant and should be able to help you on this.

I've tried calling Bill Norton- all I ever get is voicemail and did leave a message earlier this week, but have absolutely no confidence that anybody will do anything to stop these people from draining their shower into the street. Any other suggestions?

I have been to the property twice, once in the afternoon and everything was dry and early this morning and the sidewalk and pavement were wet. There was no evidence of soapy or gray water. I will be going back this afternoon with the City Code Enforcer to speak to the homeowner. Bill Norton

Ron Baia did go out and speak with the owners and told them that the discharging of water out to the curb must stop. The owner said they will hire a plumber to make the correct repairs. Ron told them that the repairs need to be made immediately and that there can be no more discharging of water to the curb. We will check again tomorrow to make sure that the owners follow through with the repairs.
