The State milled and repaved State Street through Hamden up to North Haven also this summer. The State workers told me that the right lane is a parking lane. Supposedly Hamden and New Haven do not want vehicles parked on the grass areas (for example, across from Jake's), so they changed the travel pattern from 2 lanes to 1, reduced the width of the travel lane by 2 feet, and created a parking lane on each side of State Street. To prevent vehicles from parking on the grass areas, the State workers installed metal reflector rods on the grass areas. I don't like the new lane markings also and I am glad to hear someone complaining and final reporting that several accidents have occurred because of the new travel lane pattern.
