I myself avoid the mall, when we need it it is very early in the morning ..period
most parents today are busy and society has allowed the child upbringing to become every body's problem. They breed to have em don't stay together the issues are ten fold etc.
What should happen the minute a situation occurs they should be kicked out on the spot that means outside it isn't their responsibility to contact mom and dad its a business period!!!
When the mall takes better action the it will end .
People say where should they go ???Well again the MALL isn't the place and PARENTS NEED TO FIND A SAFE PLACE FOR THEM AND BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CHILDREN NOT A BUSINESS AND NOT EVERYONE IN SOCIETY..If they cant take care of them 24/7 then don't have em ....

I definitely agree that the gangs of teenagers at the mall are an issue. I avoid the situation altogether now by not going on the weekends. No one would have a problem with these kids being at the mall if they were there to shop, or eat with friends, or see a movie. The last time I checked, that is what the mall is for. It is not a "hang out spot".
I was tired of listening to these kids yelling and cursing at each other. I was tired of them standing in the middle of the walkway, making it difficult for those of us who are trying to shop to pass by them.
I have never been rude to any of your precious teenagers who have no respect of manners. I am not much older than they are, and I was not allowed to "hang out at the mall". I was only allowed to go with a purpose.
Why don't you allow your kids to hang out at your home with their friends? Is it because you don't want to be bothered with listening to them yell and curse in your home?
Thank You to those of you who do raise respectable teens who do use the mall for what it is intended. But for those of you who want your kids out of your home and hair, and to be entertained at the mall, it isn't fair to everyone else to listen to them yelling and screaming, jumping on each other, and cursing. Mall security isn't there to keep YOUR KIDS in line. They are there to look out for those that are trying to shop.
Entertain and discipline your own kids. Stop relying on everyone else to do it for you.

I think that more actual details and behaviors need to be discussed here. Then specific issues can be addressed. It may be that the solution is to have reasonable age guidelines and behavioral limits posted and enforced.
When ppl talk about daycare, are they saying 8 yr olds are wandering in packs through the mall?
Swearing may be protected as free speech, but it may be that the mall as private property gets to curtail it.

blah, blah, blah..... whine, whine, whine.... that is all you know how to do.... get a life people.... what exactly is the daily freeman going to do about getting this issue fixed? if it upsets you so much then go directly to the mall customer service desk and lodge a complaint. do something about it instead of sitting behind your computer with your fake names or anonymous name, whining and complaining that you feel threaten by these teenagers.... boo hoo!
and if they don't correct the issue and if they don't take your complaint seriously then threaten to go somewhere else.
and if that doesn't work then I guess all you can do is go so somewhere else but please stop the whining.... blah blah blah
and someone always complains... and thats because they have nothing better to do but complain...

Stop arguing about whether or not there IS a problem and define the problem more concretely.

well i see a bunch of people who dont have a problem with this and a bunch of people who do. so if you dont have a problem with it then why close it? is this not a site to report problems? simply... if you do not care about this issue then go on elsewhere and do not post on here and dont be childish and close the post. i will reopen it everysingle time. you are right that the issue should and could be broughten up to the mall .. WELL guess what it has many times.
as far as security goes. it is their job to protect the SHOPPERS, not the kids that get dropped off at the mall to wander for hours. also a child under the smoking age asking for a light or a smoke is not a problem? do they ask their parents for one at home? be serious! parents should be taking their kids out on weekend nights and spending family time with them and letting their friends go with them if they want social. gee lets think about it. they get to be social doing positive activities through school or at school . or if you are such a great parent then you already have had them intrested in hobbies they can do on their free time. wandering the mall to get in the way of SHOPPERS is not a hobby.
Also i have had problems with kids bumping into me while a child was with me and then i almost had to fight back when the kid and his so called little gang friends wanted to jump me. so yeah these problems do exist and then when i went and told security , they told me there was nothing they could do because they were not around when it happend. how come the other malls do not have this type of promblem for many years?
because they took care of it. our mall needs to install cameras and make it obvious by those big black bubbles that they have cameras. i am unsure what would of happened to that teenager and his little buddies if they would of hurt the actual child i was with.
but to most to you that obviously would be ok if it was your child that got bumped and fell and cracked their head open huh?? well you can sleep easy thinking that way but i and many others can not.

I guess what I can't understand is...if everyone on here who is posting is at the mall supervising their kids, then why are they fighting for "the right" for kids to be left alone at the mall? Why are they being so defensive? It sounds as though these are the very people whose kids are at the mall loitering, cursing and running around.
It is true, those of us who don't want to put up with the nonsense can shop elsewhere, but why should we? I personally do drive all the way to Poughkeepsie because I choose not to deal with the obnoxious kids at the mall on the weekends.
For example, one time I had my 4 year old daughter with me, and we were walking and a teen girl (probably about 14) was yelling "F*ck you b*tch" at another girl. Is that necessary? This is not an isolated incident, either. Haven't any of you read about the fights that are there?
We also have a 32 year old man missing from Kingston, but we should just dump our kids off at the mall and all will be fine?
I am not sure why kids need a special place to hang out. What's wrong with each other's homes? What about family time? How about they get jobs?
If you want to scream that your teenager "has rights" well also consider that the rest of us do as well. Teenagers do have the right to be at the mall, but they shouldn't be dumped off there for mall security to deal with, and everyone else to tolerate. It is unfortunate that all of the bad eggs are ruining it for everyone else, but that is why we have both rules and laws. I have a right to take my daughter to the mall to do some shopping and not deal with nonsense, as does everyone else.
I am sorry if that makes some of you angry, but I am echoing what many others feel about this. I noticed that 16 other people want this fixed, so perhaps all of us should go to the mall and ask that something be done. Then, we won't have to fight about it on here anymore.

We as customers have rights also ,the language etc is out of control.
The parents who love this idea of drop off get em later really don't want to be bothered and are the first to blame everyone for what happens to their little darling when they were absent and uninvolved period....We in this area have the worst mall and stores and parking so unfortunately I myself DO GO OUT OF HERE and to Albany or Poughkeepsie deals are better and quite frankly so his the food..these stores have set themselves up for the buying power of the people and that is the low end salaries sorry but that is true and we have the lowest selections ,colors etc....so head out early and enjoy your day it is worth it....

Actually, I have a sixteen yr old and a twelve yr old and a ten yr old. I sometimes let them go to the movies wo me. Sometimes they go to the mall in a group. I have taken them to the mall. I have dropped them and observed them (I used to be in undercover work)and they are fine. Now that they have proven they are responsible in a thousand ways, sometimes the 16yo, sometimes th 13 yo can go to the mall UNSUPERVISED with friends.
My kids all do jobs of various sorts for neighbors and earn money. There are stores at the mall that are geared for those under 18. What bothers me is this attitude that teens need to be babysat and suddenly, given no independence and no responsibility for 18 years,at 18 tra la!, they are good to go.
The Mall and walking around town, bike riding in the city, UNOBSERVED BY THEIR MOM AND DAD are all experiences we had growing up in America in the 20's 30's 40's 50's 60's 70's 80's and nineties. Now for 3 decades ppl have been having 1 kid per family, and smothering them. We are raising big self centered babies. Yes, the community needs to help raise kids, and part of that is saying something if you see behavior you don't like. Then they learn that family standards are community standards.
I still don't see why this is a problem for the click fix though.
