The cat appeared to be hovering around the Knickerboker building. There's a chance it loat its collar and is owned by someone there so I left it there.

I didn't retrieve Candide because I thought he might belong to someone in the Knickerbocker. Thats the last place I saw him and the Knickerbocker building is at the link below.
