According to our records the speed humps on Perkins St. were installed a number of years ago. At the time speed humps only covered the width of the lanes and did not extend into the parking spaces. Today speed humps expand across the road, with 12 inch gaps between the ends and the curbs to allow water to drain.

Traffic Calming measures, such as speed bumps, are required to go through New Haven’s “Complete Streets” program. Projects are submitted through a public request form, and a Resource Committee reviews the proposal. Approval is required before Engineering is allowed to work on the project.

There you will find a “Complete Streets Manual” and “Project Request Form”. You are not required to design anything, just think of the manual as a showcase of the different traffic calming features we can potentially use. You will also be able to see previous requests from residents. Once the request is submitted, traffic data are collected for the committee's review.
