we feel your pain in the downtown as well. we've started a facebook group to help coordinate a lobbying campaign to change state law to adopt the federal standards from the EPA on exhaust pipe labeling (as Maine and Colorado has done).
There is a noise ordinance in New Haven , it needs enforcement.A few NH Alderpersons did some major police union pandering and promises to get that ordinance through , I suppose much more entitlements are due for even an answer to the complaint
The business establishments in that area of State Street have an obligation to ask their customers to tone it down. I for one have stopped going to JP Dempsey's since there's no way to sit outside and talk over the Harley roar. Residential New Haven is not like the wilds of Branford or Shelton or wherever these folks come from. There's people with babies across the street. The city should do like it's done in the harbor: post the equivalent of "No Wake" signs.
Have the police do one or more inforcements on state street. Request it by way of the management team. Enforcements are simple and effective. Bikers without mufflers will avoid state street. Fines are 150 with a mandatory court appearrance. Its a simple and effective means to deter motorcycles without mufflers to stay away.
We have the same problem on the East Shore. At the East Shore Management Team meeting, we hear about how they are "working" on it but there is little, if any, difference. The underlying problem is many police have recreational motorcycles and they are reluctant to go after their buddies. Also, they are more concerned with "real" crime than criminal acts that affect our quality of life. I have seen the police drive right past a noisy motorcycle and not even turn their heads. Maybe we need to start at the top and put pressure on Esserman.
We are trying to delineate issues that are current and need the city's attention to resolve. Any issues prior to 2013 are being closed. If your issue remains and needs to be addressed by the city, please either re-open or open as a new See Click Fix issue. Thanks.
