Description
A few dozen of us, residents and business owners in the immediate area of this intersection have been trying, for months now, to get something done to alleviate the atrocious noises being made night and day.
Six days a week, starting as early as 3:15 a.m., empty dump trucks heading north up Jarvis to pick up fill from condo construction sites bounce as they hit the uneven pavement at the streetcar tracks at King Street East. The noise is simply atrocious as metal hits metal and the box reverberates, jolting many of us awake. This noise re-occurs every 15 – 20 minutes or so from then all through the day. The noise is so loud that pedestrians in the area often wince on hearing it.
We have been in touch with Councillor Pam McConnell and her staff for months now in an effort to alleviate this problem. If you can help us in any way, we would be most grateful. If you would care to meet with a few of us in the area for a chat over coffee, we’d be very happy to do that.
We hope to hear from you soon.

On a separate matter the parking lot owner Cityzen at Frederick and Front was supposed put in plants to the boxes around the lot; they have sat empty since erected. When will they do what they promised?

Thank you, Pat Foran, for continuing to help us on this issue. As you have noticed, and city has some kind of automatic "Close this Issue" set up on its system, which is frustrating at the least. Once a service ID has been assigned, the city closes it. A few days ago, our issue was "closed" at 4:58 a.m., a time when I doubt any person was taking any action whatsoever. I sense from some of the comments I've received since starting this request for action that there are many people in the downtown area whose lives are made miserable by excessive and in many cases gratuitous noise from many sources.
Again, thank you for your efforts in keeping this issue alive.

I see no mention of potholes only 'uneven pavement' and streetcar tracks. If this noise (or any other problem) has a simple fix - like filling in a pothole - then of course it should be sent to SCF and addressed by the City. My point was a general complaint that some people use SCF to 'whine' about things that have no real solution except returning to the past.
I actually went to look at the pavement at King and Jarvis. It is not mirror-like but, in my opinion, no worse than than it many parts of the City.

If the city AGREES that a SeeClickFix issue is a problem that needs to be fixed, but are unable to do so for any reason (budgets, resources, etc), the issue should remain Acknowledged. The city should explain their timeline for resolving (if any), or the challenge they face in resolving.
If the city DISAGREES that a SeeClickFix issue is a problem that needs to be fixed, they are free to Close it. However, they should explain why they don't think it's a problem. Furthermore, as in this case, the city must understand that citizens are free to re-Open the issue, if they don't accept the city's reasoning.
In all cases, the discourse should remain civil, in compliance with the SeeClickFix ToS.
For a great example of an issue on SeeClickFix that represents a long-term dialogue between Government and Citizens (and amongst Citizens), see http://seeclickfix.com/issues/15932-elm-street-cycle-track. Reported 3 1/2 years ago, Acknowledged by the City of New Haven 1 month later, yet never Closed, allowing 88 valuable comments to be posted. Credit the city for not trying to silence the discussion, despite the resolution being a major challenge.

This constant opening and closing of this issue - and the subsequent emails - is getting annoying. SCF is not an official City service and the City has 311 which DOES track issues. Surely better to have the City take issues from SCF, create a report on 311 and for people to follow up on THAT request. The City really cannot be expected to keep updating issues on both 311 AND SCF.
Of course, the 311 tracking system is far from perfect. They seem to say an issue is 'concluded' if the 311 centre has sent it off to a City Division. In this case, presumably Transportation. In fact on 311 the latest tracking number says "Concluded". If it isn't then surely better to use the 311 service to report that it is still as problem.
