Then cars wanting to turn right will be stuck behind cars waiting to go straight. 6 of one; half dozen of another. You're just switching the problem to someone else.

Both the lane change and a left turn signal should be installed at this intersection. For some reason, many drivers making a left here think they have the right of way over oncoming traffic. Far too many close calls at this light.

Although there are two lights, there is only one lane. If there were two, there would be a painted line on the road to indicate as such. If you do not believe this, call the police dept. to check.
